Here is my point: I am part English/German and part Cherokee. The English part of my family came over on the ship after the Mayflower, called Fortune. Cherokee people have been here since the land bridge between Alaska and Russia. Neither time did any of my ancestors have to fill out paperwork or give the government (admitedly, nonexistant) a chunk of their money, or belongings. What is the big deal? These people were looking to improve their lives, as are many "aliens" today.
I'm just wondering, also, how many people that are against immigrants, "legal" or "illegal" can claim to be first generation? Many native Americans that I speak with don't care. Why should you?
What makes an "illegal" immigrant illegal?
It's just the "cool" thing to do right now, there are so many followers out there and not enough leaders.
Reply:In today's society laws and rules are put in place, to give some sort of order to everyday life. Imagine having a child and not setting boundaries and rules. How do you think the child will act or grow up as, with no rules to follow?
Society decided that immigration policy was a step to decide who came to live and work in the country. Would you rather open the doors and let in anyone, no matter what their background? A few hundred years ago immigration policy did not exist, so it was not an issue. Today it is, and it is law, and should be followed
Reply:I'm sorry, but you don't have a point. Today, 2007, we have a system of government and a system of laws. A person who enters the United States "uninspected" (sneaking over the border) or a person who comes here with a visa and stays past the date he/she's supposed to leave is an illegal alien.
Reply:What makes a bank robbery not a standard withdrawal?
Reply:California school
%26gt; teacher
%26gt; speaks out!!!!!
%26gt; Cheap Labor Cheap Tomatoes . .. . This should make everyone think, be you
%26gt; Democrat, Republican or Independent !
%26gt;
%26gt; From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen to the news about
%26gt; the
%26gt; student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you
%26gt; should be aware of:
%26gt;
%26gt; I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large
%26gt; southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school,
%26gt; meaning
%26gt; that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.
%26gt;
%26gt; Most of the schools you are hearing about, South GateHigh, Bell Gardens,
%26gt; Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also
%26gt; Title 1
%26gt; schools.
%26gt;
%26gt; Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I
%26gt; say
%26gt; free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full
%26gt; breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a
%26gt; Marriott proud.
%26gt; The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being
%26gt; dumped
%26gt; in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
%26gt;
%26gt; I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least
%26gt; moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school
%26gt; also
%26gt; provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as
%26gt; young as
%26gt; 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to
%26gt; arrange
%26gt; for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT
%26gt; WORK)
%26gt;
%26gt; I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding
%26gt; for
%26gt; the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my
%26gt; budget
%26gt; was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer
%26gt; learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with
%26gt; graffiti
%26gt; by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to
%26gt; have a
%26gt; free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
%26gt;
%26gt; I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers
%26gt; whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the
%26gt; country less
%26gt; then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling
%26gt; them
%26gt; "Putas" whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.
%26gt;
%26gt; Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it
%26gt; any
%26gt; wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand
%26gt; rights, privileges and entitlements?
%26gt;
%26gt; To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants
%26gt; contribute
%26gt; to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they
%26gt; like
%26gt; to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal
%26gt; immigration and see the TRUE costs.
%26gt;
%26gt; Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more
%26gt; crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new
%26gt; diseases
%26gt; etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.
%26gt;
%26gt; We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because
%26gt; we
%26gt; won't have the guts to enforce it.
%26gt; Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave
%26gt; and
%26gt; return?
%26gt;
%26gt; There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to
%26gt; our
%26gt; country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and
%26gt; accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way.
%26gt;
%26gt; It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world
%26gt; culture
%26gt; that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and
%26gt; dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an
%26gt; American
%26gt; culture that has become so weak and worried about "politically correct"
%26gt; that we
%26gt; don't have the will to do anything about it.
%26gt;
%26gt; If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone
%26gt; you
%26gt; know.
%26gt;
%26gt; CHEAP LABOR?
%26gt; Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?
%26gt;
%26gt; Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.
%26gt;
%26gt; Consumers don't want expensive produce.
%26gt;
%26gt; Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.
%26gt;
%26gt; But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a
%26gt; farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as "cheap labor."
%26gt;
%26gt; Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He
%26gt; takes
%26gt; a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays
%26gt; no
%26gt; income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return,
%26gt; he
%26gt; gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
%26gt;
%26gt; He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
%26gt;
%26gt; He qualifies for food stamps.
%26gt;
%26gt; He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
%26gt;
%26gt; His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
%26gt;
%26gt; He requires bilingual teachers and books.
%26gt;
%26gt; He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
%26gt;
%26gt; If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.
%26gt; Once
%26gt; qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our)
%26gt; taxpayer's expense.
%26gt;
%26gt; He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners
%26gt; insurance.
%26gt;
%26gt; Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
%26gt;
%26gt; He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in
%26gt; benefits.
%26gt;
%26gt; Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying
%26gt; their bills and his.
%26gt;
%26gt; The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash
%26gt; clean-up.
%26gt;
%26gt; Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people. THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE
%26gt; SHOULD
%26gt; BE ADDRESSING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR EITHER PARTY. AND WHEN
%26gt; THEY
%26gt; LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE !
Reply:Laws change. Just because people were able to enter freely in the past is no reason to think they should be able to do so now when laws prohibit this. The position of a "native" means nothing more than any other citizen.
Perhaps you believe it is acceptable to disregard the laws?
Reply:It was unclaimed land back then (obviously the Indians claimed it but it wasn't law). You could show up and take it and many Europeans did just that. Over time the land was bought and fought over.
Today its the United States. Every country in the world as laws that state you need to come into their country legally following their laws. We are no different. I can't just get on a plane to Europe. I would be arrested same as if they do that here. Illegals just assume that because they can walk across the border that its open for them. They want us to pay for their education, health care, food, and housing. This wouldn't be a problem if they paid taxes for it and got legal jobs to pay for this stuff.
Reply:"Neither time did any of my ancestors have to fill out paperwork or give the government (admitedly, nonexistant) a chunk of their money, or belongings. "
You are right on. Government and laws did not exist and they didn't HAVE to do those things.
That is NOT the case today.
Reply:They are illegal because they are breaking the laws of this country 1st coming in UNDOCUMENTED then either making up a SS number or stealing someone else's.
As far as your heritage and what happened in the last century git over it.
I am an natural born American as were all my grandparents and their grandparents.
I am not sure what some of these people did but I am sure some of it wouldn't pass muster today.
I have never owned a slave or known one.
Never committed a massacre or participated in genocide.
There fore I refuse to feel any personal guilt for any thing these people I never met did or didn't do to any one anywhere, ever.
Reply:Welcome to 2007...where there are formal laws.
Comparisons to your ancestors mean nothing today.
Other ancestors crawled around on all fours and ate with their hands and their feet. Please tell me you don't eschew forks and knives because they did.
Reply:This continent is now called The United States of America - we rightfully won and paid for this land. We are a nation of laws - if you're unable or unwilling to respect them and obey them, feel free to take a hike.
Since we have conquered this land, millions of Americans have been born. If anyone wants to become a citizen of this country they need to earn it - background check, learn English, learn US history.. Those don't come freely, you know!
You can't keep living in the past - accept what is and move on with your life.
Mexico is a fully conquered nation - that means they killed so-called Natives of that land to claim their territory.. Should they give the land back? I don't think so! It's called survival of the fittest - Darwin figured it out, why can't you?!
"Just because something is law doesn't make it right.." Hhhm.. Well, for your information, each person in the world has their own idea of what is wrong and right - take, for example, Muslim extremists who behead anyone who 'disrespects' Allah. LAWS ARE LAWS. RESPECT OR STAY AWAY. Feel free to overtake your own land and call it your own, make your own laws.
- - - - -
If you don't like the American laws that are in place then go to another country. We are not going to change our way of living to accommodate anyone else.
Reply:Yours, and every other Americans family history has NOTHING to do with illegal trespassing (NOT immigration. Immigration is for those who enter America under the laws of America). I am also part Cherokee, but did you know the Indians were NOT the first peoples here? They, the Indians want science shut-up, when scientists have found sculls, and bones on the East coast dating back before the Indians, that were NOT of Indian decent, so your assumption has no merit. Indian tribes go to court claiming to want their burial places kept alone. Hmmmm, I wonder why????? To keep the world from knowing the truth??????
If you break into America, without following the laws of the land, you're a CRIMINAL, and have NO rights!
Reply:times are differant than the 18th or 19th century....noone says people cannot come to america legally, in fact when immagrents come here legally they are welcome. you just cant move to any country illegally. you can't just move to canada. the problem lies with people breaking laws on borders and yes they even have immagration laws in mexico.
all you need is a document green card or a passport or a visa.
oh and your ancesters did file paperwork if they came legally.
our social security system and welfare and health care systems are already in turmoil. most of the monies earned by "illegal alliens" or UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS go back to mexico and not where they earned it. why do some people think america is supposed to just let any one come over?.
this is why we have laws and by the way other countries don't allow illegals either.....do it legal,,,,no problem,,,,,do it illegally get deported PERIOD.
Reply:The law is the law. Passports and visas are required to enter and live in the US today for a reason. Public health concerns and national security are the most important reasons to control who stays here and who cannot. I often hear "undocumented aliens" are only here to get work and better their lives. Using this logic, is it OK for me to drive 100 mph through every red light on my way to work simply because I want to work and improve my life?
Immigration laws must be obeyed for the sake of public safety and anyone who circumvents these laws is by definition a "CRIMINAL ALIEN"!
Reply:So if all the illegals are harming our country we should just let them in.today has nothing to do with two hundred years ago dumb ***.
Reply:Looking to improve ones life is done by following the rules. You just don't jump to the front of the line. Sneaking across the border is a violation of the sovereign laws of this country. When coming across the border illegally that event renders them law breakers. Getting jobs without the proper paperwork renders them law breakers. If people of the USA cannot and are not allow to move into Mexico at will, or obtain jobs without red tape why then should this country allow it.
Reply:Crossing the border and living under the law makes them illegal. The issue is now, not a couple of hundred years ago...
Reply:You ancestors paid for America in the revolutionary war, world war 1%26amp;11, korea, Viet Nam, now Iraq and was not given to us but was a hostile land that was tamed. You probably do not mind taking the milk and honey but want to ***** because colonists came and settled a barren hostile, unliviable environment and turned it into something great that the whole world envies. You should quit feeling guilty over this success and thank the men and women who came many years before you for this way of life. Soon, son, if we do not stop the influx of illegal aliens destroying our land even the indians would not take the land back. Mexicans had the same opportunity to make mexico a country their citizens would be proud of but they blew it.
Reply:I was born here which makes me an American,so are ancor babies.
What is your point?
