History Question?

were the anglo saxons on the mayflower ship?

History Question?
As I recall, it was only the Pilgrims who were on the Mayflower. Anglo Saxons arrived before the Pilgrims, they were around the 5th century AD. To learn more go to the link provided...
Reply:Well, who settled England? Was it English people on the ship?
Reply:I take it you are refering to the "anglo-saxons" of the "WASP- White Anglo-Saxon Protestant" segment of U.S. society. It's a complicated answer. The short answer would be yes, however the people from the mayflower would have been decendants of Vikings, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Normans, Celts, Romano-British and so forth. it's a bit like defining modern americanism, Native, hispanic, black, french, English, polish, russian...

The term "Anglo-saxon" is a crude attempt to create a historical ethnic lineage. But I presume they would have refered to themselves as "English".
Reply:probably as not all turned to be normans after 1066 and not all britons were displaced by the angles saxons and jutes - so it was a mix of all of them
