What do you think about the "Christians" that first came to North America?

In almost all elementary schools, children are taught about pilgrims and the Mayflower and all that fun stuff. What they do not tell is the story of the MASS SLAUGHTER, RAPE, AND DESTRUCTION of the Native Americans. They didn't say how

"By conservative estimates, the population of the United states prior to European contact was greater than 12 million. Four centuries later, the count was reduced by 95% to 237,000."

In 1493, when Columbus returned to the Hispaniola, he quickly implemented policies of slavery and mass extermination of the Taino population of the Caribbean. Within three years, five million were dead. Las Casas, the primary historian of the Columbian era, writes of many accounts of the horrors that the Spanish colonists inflicted upon the indigenous population: hanging them en mass, hacking their children into pieces to be used as dog feed, and other horrid cruelties.

When Columbus talked to his sponsers, he claimed that his goal was to spread the "glory" of God.

What do you think about the "Christians" that first came to North America?
This is not true and is part of a long running attempt to rewrite history. As they say "tell a lie often enough and..."
Reply:There's this relgious cult called Mormonism. They claim that Jesus came to North America.

I'm not making this up.

They're based in Salt Lake City, their book is called, surprisingly, "The Book of Mormon."

They have some long-winded name for their church like "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

There are tons of them.

Of course these people came after the Mayflower. I guess they made up their stories to justify Christians living in North America.
Reply:It is extremely saddening to me that the white race has a history of such hate, intolerance and murder.

Those atrocities were not a Christian issue, they were a white man issue. It makes me ashamed of our heritage.
Reply:Makes you wonder.

Ben ladin also thinks he is a good Muslim.
Reply:My favorite detail:

When Spanish missionaries and inquisitors would kill Aztec children, they would first baptize them, thus ensuring their safe passage to Heaven. Or at least purgatory.
Reply:well actually, I never met them, so I dont know.
Reply:Didnt they hang 'Indians' by 13's in honour of Jesus and His twelve disciples?
Reply:Satan had many followers then as he does now, these deeds were not done in the spirit of God but by men and their own thoughts. No doubt God was never ask for guidance during these atrocity's.Why is it when things like this are brought up people always say where was God or would God do that? No he wouldn't

but men who do not follow God and his plans commit these awful crime's as the devil has led and guided them to do.
Reply:It's a real shame what religion can do.
Reply:While you are correct that they did rape and kill and plunder, and I do not take up for them, they deserve the critism, but another big factor in the many deaths of Native americans is they died of deseases that the people from other lands brougt with them.
Reply:Good. I was going to say " ask the natives if you can find any".
Reply:They were hypocrites using the name of God to further their own careers.
Reply:The "gifts" of smallpox-infected blankets always gets me.

Reply:i agree, every day on colombus day when i was younger I'd say that and people would just shake their heads like i was crazy, still to this day i tell people year round how much religion screws up other people.
