WHY is it that the US thinks that it is the most powerful/wonderful nation on the face of the earth?

As someome who was born here in the US (actually my genes go back itteally to the Mayflower), Why should we feel superioer to all others in the world? Does this sounf like Germany 1938?

WHY is it that the US thinks that it is the most powerful/wonderful nation on the face of the earth?
Well, we are the world's superpower both militarily and economically, but we should use that power responsibly instead of arrogantly, otherwise we will lose it. That is why the British empire fell, because it overstepped its bounds.
Reply:You both need some more koolaid Report It
Reply:Because we are an arrogant, selfish, crude, cruel %26amp; power-hungry nation.

It is very unfortunate the US will happily help foreigners, yet the residents who live here have a very hard time getting some form of temporary help from the government.
Reply:I don't feel it is a matter of feeling superior to all others in the world. The fact that we enjoy many freedoms that others do not. Gives us a different out look. Our form of government, gives anyone born here the opportunity to advance to the office of the Presidency. It also protects the person that wants to stand on the corner and decry that very form of government. With out fear of disappearing, never to be heard from again. We can travel from one end of our country to another. Without needing travel documents. We as Americans know we have rights. Know that our fore fathers, fought and died for them. We know that we live in a land of laws. That we had a hand in creating and can change. I have traveled all over the world and have seen first hand. How other countries treat their subjects. I am always happiest when I return home.
Reply:Well, that's really two questions--

a) as to being themost powerful: we have the biggest economy and the most guns. That, as they say, is that.

b) being the best is another matter--and its a sbjective matter. America is my home and as far as I'm concerned, its the best place on earth.

BUT--where I part dcompany absoluutely withthe nationalists is this: I do not feel any need to make derogatory remarks about other countries. Those people have different ways ofdoing things-and they love their homes jsut as we in America love ours. We can criticize things their governments do wrong--but that is not the same as running down their culture. And--we aren't perfect either, muh as I wish we were.

People who feel the need to be "superior" to others only demonstrate that they are inferior.
Reply:don't worry, very soon China will surpass the USA economically, and it's all downhill for the Christian bigots from there
Reply:Because in America freedom is important - even if we have to fight for it; some may try to trample it from time to time, but it is the strength of spirit in the American people that make this country a wonderful country. We are a nation of generous people who have helped other nations worldwide, and have offerred our expertise in the field of medicine and education to all who want to come here and take advantage of the assets we have built. We are the direct opposite of Germany 1938. Why do you think we have an immigration problem? People want to come here - but they don't want to leave. I wouldn't say that was true when Hitler came to town.
Reply:I love America because of the freedoms we have and all of those (past, present, and future) who have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms everyday. Everyday is a new opportunity for something. You can be with the one you love, hang out with anyone you like, apply for any job, speak your mind, travel anywhere..... sing, dance, practice any religion. I'm not saying that I feel like I am better than anyone because I am an American. I just feel very blessed and fortunate that I am one.
Reply:Nope.

We make better choices.

We are better.

We have a responsibility to see that other people have the same opportunities.

Don't deny the obvious.
Reply:The USA has the most Nukes and can beat anyone up.
Reply:Well it is the most powerful it terms of miltary... If your genes go back to the mayflower your ancestors must have known Mr. George W. Bush's ancestors... perhaps. Both my parents are from India and well they don't know famous people. But back to you question. It's cause Americans have the world showcased to them in an "Americancentric" perspective, they are usually taught the positives of America and the negative aspects are downplayed. Also instead of trying to improve the bad aspects of the nations, other negative aspects of other nations are tageted and exploited to bolster a stronger domestic image. In doing so people inadvertently forget about the problems at home and only remember the good stuff. And no America does not sound like Nazi Germany. America has many good people, unfortunately the bad ones run the federal government now. Best wishes for your nation in 2009.
Reply:Well.....america was the most powerfull nation...but now i highly doubt it. Clinton made the military a lot smaller, Bush made that little military go to Iraq and Afghanistan...is there peace? no. Will there ever be? no. America has bigger problems that terrorism. like the economy. its going down to ****. The dollar becoms weaker, the euro stronger. Its sad to see this happen to what once was one of the greatest nations in the world. Now its just full of violence, hate, and many uneducated people. It proves that you cant live in paradise forever. Wait till the gas prices go up again.....or when there is no more gas. Good bye trucks and SUVs. The world is changing and the usa isnt following. poor judgement, bad leaders, lazy people, has put america on a downward path.
Reply:Perhaps because it is? There are flights and ships leaving the country every day, and I bet there is a place for you. You might try Cuba, Iran, or some other country more to your liking. I'm sure they would appreciate and seek your glowing advice and wisdom.
