What the heck does this mean?

"...covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil body politic for our better ordering and preservation"



thats from the mayflower compact, but I have to put it into my own words, but I can't do that if I don't understand what that means! help

What the heck does this mean?
It means lets organize ourselves together, and form a group to to govern the people so that we can survive.
