How come we never here of columbus during thanksgiving?

I know he has his own holiday but he drove the mayflower here with the pilgrams and invented the first thanksgiving. Why don't we ever mention him around thanksgiving time? they are always mentioned as the pilgrims.

How come we never here of columbus during thanksgiving?
You're confused about the two.

Christopher Columbus (Genoa?, Italy, 1451? – Valladolid, Spain, May 20, 1506) was a navigator and maritime explorer credited as the discoverer of the Americas in 1492. He arrived at an island he called (in what is now The Bahamas) San Salvador (exact island unknown). He discovered the Americas. He never had Thanksgiving(1)

U.S. tradition compares the holiday with a meal held in 1621 by the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This element continues in modern times with the Thanksgiving dinner, often featuring turkey, playing a large role in the celebration of Thanksgiving. Some of the details of the American Thanksgiving story are myths that developed in the 1890s and early 1900s as part of the effort to forge a common national identity in the aftermath of the Civil War and in the melting pot of new immigrants. Reply:i dont know
Reply:um.. where did you hear that Columbus 'drove' the mayflower here?
Reply:Yeah, and how come we never hear about the genocide against Native Americans either?
Reply:you seriously need to take US history over again. Haven't you ever heard the rhyme "Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 14 hundred and 92". The Pilgrims first arrived on Plymouth rock in 1620! I doubt that Columbus could have survived 200 years. Also, Columbus sailed to the "New" World on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.
Reply:Christopher Columbus did not captain the Mayflower. That was Christopher Jones. He and the Pilgrims came from England to America in the 1600's. Columbus came from Italy to America in 1492. His ship was the Santa Maria. He sailed along with two other ships, the Nina and the Pinta.
Reply:Because his holiday is in October, not November.

I think you're confusing his discovery of the new world in 1492 with the Pilgrims who came along later in 1620.
Reply:maybe because he shouldnt even have his own holiday the way he didnt even know that he was in america when he got here and that he treated the Native Americans like slaves when he arrived. I dont think he should be credited as discovering america when there were obviously other people here when he got here, yes I know that he was the first european to discover america but that is not a good reason. and the fact that he didnt have the first thanksgiving.
Reply:Go back to history class. Columbus sailed from Spain with the Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria in 1492. The Pilgrims came from England in 1620 on the Mayflower.
