Atheist.............?

.

Thanksgiving is around the corner. Thank God for the Pilgrim Fathers, the landing of the Mayflower, and the Puritan Desire.

What are you atheist gonna do? Celebrate as well? or sulk at home? better still, go to work and sulk in your offices???

from a person desiring to be Puritan in Muslim country

Atheist.............?
hi there, here we go ....

We in South Africa do not have those type of festivals.

But let us see what the Lord say about them.

Isaiah 1:14

“I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts, They have become a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing them.

15 “So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.

16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil,

17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.

I don't know much of these festivals but I have seen in the movies that whether you are a Christian or not they still have there Thanksgiving day. It is almost like a cultural thing.

Christmas I can still understand for that is the day that we celebrate the birth of Christ but on the other hand it does not matter what you believe in, all partake in this day, they just call it something else, like Holdays or whatever.

Just something for the Atheists, if you do celabrate Thanksgiving, who do you give thanks to? Just me %26lt;smile)

Tace care
Reply:Yeah, I'm going to celebrate the persecution of the Native Americans, and their near extinction by stuffing my fat American face with fat American turkey.
Reply:Give respect to other cultures you preach for rights and expect them you expect to be treat with dignity and respect show some will you don't mock a person beliefs are is it just a one way road Dave
Reply:I'm gonna thank god that those Pilgrims had to leave England because all those Christians couldn't decide without prejudice and persecution how to worship their "one, true, and infallible god."

Then I'm gonna eat turkey, watch football, and have a blast with my family...

make of that what you will
Reply:Wow! There's only one atheist? Must be lonely.

Or, perhaps, you meant "atheists", a plural form of the word, indicating that there may be more than one.

Do you realize that Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday? It's a national one. It's not Biblical. It's not a Christian holiday. Basically it is a day to give thanks, but do you know what for, originally?

The nice fuzzy wuzzy version is about the wonderful relations between settlers and natives, but that's not where the modern version came from.

In 1621, when the first 'thanksgiving' supposedly took place, there was no bountiful harvest. The 'bountiful harvests' didn't start until around 1624, when the puritans began to force the natives into slavery to do their harvesting, started digging up graves of Natives to look for jewelry and other riches.

The next "thanksgiving" took place in 1641, when the puritans slaughtered a group of natives. Part of the 'celebration' was spent kicking the severed heads of these natives around the streets.

It's truly a lovely holiday for religious folk! Ever wonder why so many Natives don't celebrate it?
Reply:thanksgiving is an american holiday not a christian holiday. if ur gonna get that deep, then why are we celebrating the day that whites massively murdered innocent indians? because it was their manifest destiny from god? how evil. i just think of it as a day to be appreciative of what u have and pig out over some turkey.
Reply:I'm going to celebrate by spending time with my bit of family, eating a good meal, and enjoy being home.
Reply:How many people truly believe that Thanksgiving is a religious holiday?

It is an American holiday and I believe it is celebrated in Canada as well.

Nothing at all to do with any god...
Reply:I am an atheist. What I will do is help my Christian friends celebrate their religious holiday just like I would help you celebrate your religious holidays if that were allowed by your religion. The Christians open their doors to all men. What does your religion do? What is your religion? I don't hold a mans religion against him. I only ask that he not try to force it on me. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all men.
Reply:Aftermath of the first Thanksgiving. After the Indians supplied the Pilgrims with the food for the several day feast, a few weeks later the Pilgrims went out and showed their Christian love by massacring those same Indians. I don't think that holiday got off to a great start. As to the Indians, they will celebrate by taking the White Mans' (mostly Christians) money from them at the Indian Gaming Centers and Casinos after feeding them a turkey dinner.
Reply:We all will give thanks!
Reply:It is not a relgious holiday. It is an American holiday. You are the 50th person to post this today.
Reply:Christians weren't the only ones who celebrated the first Thanksgiving, why should they be the only ones allowed now?
Reply:Personally, I don't care, lol. But as a Native American, the holiday just makes me feel really annoyed. If only I can go back in time.. Tell them to all stand on the coast and say,"Nope, turn around!"

j/k.. My mom is white, lol.
Reply:You think people who don't believe in God can't be thankful? If I was an atheist, which i'm not, i would be thankful that I was not as stupid as you are.
Reply:Yes so nice of the native Americans to save their sorry butts, then they re payed the favour by slaughtering them, converting them by force and pillaging their land.

As I said once before America would be a better place today if instead of the pilgrims landing on Plymouth rock, Plymouth rock had landed on the pilgrims.
Reply:I gotta work. Oh, and there is no evidence of the great Thanksgiving dinner ever taking place.
Reply:Thanksgiving is about being together with your family and you don't need to believe in god to celebrate it. Same goes for Christmas. I hope you have a better understanding now.
Reply:let's not forget to be thankful the pilgrims invented gunpower before the native americans did!
Reply:If you want to be a puritan in a muslim country go **** off and be one, instead of sulking on R%26amp;S

all the best
Reply:You make it sound like holidays are still celebrated for religious reasons?Christmas, Easter etc etc

And the most of the world does not celebrate thanks giving sorry to tell you %26gt;.%26gt;
Reply:Don't know where you are from, I am from the US. No reason to start a rift between religions. In America, people of all religious backgrounds have to simply bare with the fact that Thanksgiving is a nationally recognized holiday. It is a time for families to come together everywhere, yes even some athiest families probably celebrate Thanksgiving but perhaps without the spiritual context and just as a family gathering.

If you say you desire to be a Puritan, act that way and do not judge other people who do not believe the same as you. Personally, I am not athiest, I am Christian but I still don't think its right to post negatively about a belief that is not yours. Respect diversity and then you will be a true Puritan. Enjoy your holiday...
Reply:I'm going to work. I'm going to clean guests rooms. I'm going to be happy. I have fun in my job. You got an issue with it? Deal.
Reply:I just moved from Western Europe to the USA. It's my first thanksgiving ever. I'll celebrate, and I'm an atheist.

Honestly, I get so tired of these "what do atheists do on christmas" kinda questions. What good does it do?

I also really don't assume that anybody who uses the word Thursday (Thor's day), is deep down a believer in Thor. Do you?
Reply:The pilgrims wernt puritans, correct me if im wrong.
Reply:Sorry, that is an american's holiday, nothing to do with me ..... I celebrate Hari Raya Puasa though ... :P.
Reply:I'm a vegetarian Atheist,and I'm thinking...Poor turkeys,so there!
Reply:Idiot Thanksgiving isn't a Christian Holiday. Did you try to claim Halloween too?
Reply:Why do suppose an Atheist cannot be thankful for good things in life?

Doucehbag.
Reply:Suppose it turns out there's no Heaven or Hell...

what are you Puritans gona do? Sulk?
Reply:I'm gonna enjoy a great meal and a couple days off of work. Better yet, my mind won't be cluttered with mystical beings, talking snakes, parting seas, and other forms of mythology.
