The Mayflower Compact was the first written document that was created by the people with their consent to govern themselves. It was not notable other that that fact BUT that fact was huge in shaping Americans expectations of having self-determination and a voice in their government.

The Virginia Statute of religious freedom was the first set of laws that allowed people to worship where there conscience led them and stopped the practice of collecting taxes to support a state established church. It also said that the state WOULD NOT establish a form of religion that everyone had to conform to. This was reflected in the spirit of the laws created by the 1st ten Amendments to the Consttution commonly called the Billof Rights.

Magna Carta was similar to the mayflower compact in that it was the first law put in writing that gave the people some say in their government and made the King subject to law as well. It may not seem like the earth shaking thing the US Constitution is. In our day it would not be, because it really only benefited the few rich Aristocracy and Knights but it was a very good start.

The English Bill of Rights was the agreement made between Parliament and King William when he came to power in what has been called England's Glorious revolution. It limited the Kings power even more and shifted more of the power to Parliament, the representatives of the people.

The Enlightenment brought the philosophy to light that each person is responsible to themselves and their community and that it was wrong for one person (A king, etc.) to have absolute power. Politically, it taught that people could be trusted to govern themselves when given the chance.
Reply:I believe that the correct answer would be the Magna Carta and The English Bill of Rights. It has been over 40 years since I studied that.
