It's not fair that Black Americans are trying receive Slavery reparations??? What do u Think?

If they receive "Slavery reparations", then we should have reparations for the American Indians, The Mexicans/ Spanish, and the people WHO came in the MAYFLOWER.

One small thing that we have missed in WORLD History is that SLAVERY was very popular in the 1400's etc..It was used by the ROMANS, EUROPEAN's, SPANIARDS and AFRICANS......

It's not fair that Black Americans are trying receive Slavery reparations??? What do u Think?
Who said I was
Reply:Only a part of the African-American population thinks they deserve reparations for the harsh treatment they received. I agree that we would need to give many different ethnic groups money if we were to give one group some. This country and its people past/present have treated many different population groups like crap, and its very very sad.
Reply:Why not?

People currently get reparations for having unplanned children, being poor, having no food, having no health care....it's called welfare, ebt, and medicaid.

If people have the right to receive reparations for behaving irresponsibly, being lazy, and not working then I don't see the problem with giving money to people who were unfairly treated in the past.

Native Americans received reparations and land, Japanese Americans received reparations after having been placed in camps during WWII...if that's the pattern our government has been setting it would be unjust not to give reparations to African Americans.
Reply:sorry but I don't feel as though my tax dollars should be used

to pay for something that occurred 200 or 300 years ago

that's ridiculous.

I had nothing to do with it and none of my ancestors did either

just a group of lawyers looking for a big pay day I think.

Another way for the left to drag our country down
Reply:Reparations are only suitable when the injured person or persons are still living.
Reply:I think we should move on and try to make this life better for us and our children and forget the past, things that we had no control over. The people of today are not responsible for all bad things that happened one hundred years ago, or 1000 years ago. We have to deal with today, study and work hard to make the world a better place for our children.
Reply:If they can sucker the government into paying them reparations.. let'em go for it. I think they have as much chance as a snowball in Hell!
Reply:More money for crack and bling
Reply:It's nonsense, even Africans sold other tribes into slavery.
Reply:No amount can pay for over two hundred years of slavery and more slavery in the mind.. I agree with reparations for all who need it. But nothing can be given to the so called "Indian" They even stole their name and origins. You can start a thesis on this point and still not answer the question. Their can be no repayment for slavery. But you have to start somewhere. Their is a point to say however. When slavery was over for the Europeans they were not still persecuted and discriminated as a whole like the other cultures....And that is a fact. If you don't believe me research it for yourself. You might be surprised what you find. The "Indian" culture and the African culture was raped of its identity. you can see that by the many different pigmentations etc..And most of them are lost because they argue what culture they are. Many have no clue what they are. So their argument is null unless the individual knows what exactly is on his/ her tree. Well thats enought.Like I said you can write a thesis on this..And I have written a few in my time.
Reply:yes it's fair, it's also fair for all the slaves in history to do the same, look, the truth to the matter is that we have outlawed slavery, so why not... I'm not saying they are going to get anything, but as long as slavery is outlawed in our society, then our leaders have to address this and come up with a solution, don't get me wrong, I'm not taking sides or saying they should be rewarded, but, they have the right to ask and our leaders have a duty to respond !!!!
Reply:I agree. From the movie Barbershop- " All that will solve is to make Cadillac the number one dealership in America".
Reply:ITS OK WE DID IT TO SO
Reply:I say get over it
Reply:It's ridicules to give money to people who don't know the meaning of hardship. They are only cashing in on the past
Reply:It's been a long, long time since anyone was forced into involuntary servitude by large numbers of wealthy landowners and condoned en masse. Some of the slaves were given land by their formers "Masters". Some made their way into the world and got jobs, bought land, etc. Some didn't make it. Some stayed on out of loyalty to serve and were either paid or given places to live. Some were treated badly and not released. It's all part of the dark history of a time that supported such behavior. There is no equitable way to provide "reparations" in amounts that will alter the lives of the millions of verifiable descendents of the people brought to this country and/or the people born in this country to slave families. If Congress and the American people strongly feel the descendents of slaves should be compensated, put the money where it will do the most good. We already have a ***** College Fund, why not fund it to provide educations ... surely we can all agree that getting an education is the pathway out of generations of poverty and/or not having the skills to compete in a modern world. Make joining the Military more lucrative with that money and actively recruit in minority neighborhoods. Of course, then our country will be accused of being racist and sacrificing the minorities to wars.

Take a look at the immigrants to this country that came here on purpose seeking a better life over the last 300 years. One does not need to be a citizen to figure out how to start up a business. There are agencies that will help women and minorities to start their own business and make money. Money and training is already available for that.

Just handing $$ to one group as "reparations" for something that occurred almost 300 years ago is like rolling down the window of a speeding car in a neighborhood of homlesss people and tossing out dollar bills hoping someone will get them and their hunger or poverty will be forever cured.

This country is experiencing demands from lots of groups to provide money, opportunity, education, "reparations" etc. Just where will this money come from? I fear it will come from my pocket and from the sweat off my back.

The reparations distributed to the Japanese families interred during WWII was a totally different dark chapter in our history. One that took things, property, homes, possessions, jobs, etc. away from productive people that were already contributing to this country and making their own way. It was done out of hysteria and a small-thinking mob mentality. That should not be used as a comparison.

I say get over it. Make your own way. Get a job. Take a look at the other "minorities" in this country that work hard, open businesses, get educations, earn their own money and get on with their lives.

I'll earn my own money, and everybody else should do the same. If someone truly needs help, there are lots of ways to get help from the government today. I say: "A hand UP, NOT a hand OUT!"
Reply:I agree that we cannot repay from the past - we can only learn from it and move on. The list is endless if we have to make reparations to our past mistakes.
Reply:I guess slavery will never end. this is Indian land. who cares really
Reply:Reparations, for African/American. I can understand why if I was a direct descendant, with proof. Meaning directly effected by apartheid, or slavery abuse within a time frame of a few years. Past generations were effected, way past generations. It would be rash, for NOW generations to apply for a hand-out. While Jewish people were compensated, because it was acceptable for them, because of the time frame, and it happened to be debatable for them also.

I personally did not contribute to slavery, genocide, in my generation. If any one in the US demographics %26amp; qualifications I would have to give the Native Americans a share. The reason I would choose them is simple. Geopraphical. Otherwise I will get a T-SHIRT made, "Don't ask me for jack s---" made. My taxes have funded many other cause(s).
Reply:First, there is not a single former slave alive today. If there were they would certainly be due just compensation for their labor, but the ancestors of atrocities do not deserve compensation in any way. As a precedent for this point of view, from the last century, let us look at how the compensation of slave labor during the holocaust of World War II has been handled. The thousands of people that survived that inequity are being compensated by both the government of Germany and by the companies that gained from their forced labor, and rightfully so. But their children have no inherited right to collect for the uncompensated labor of their parents. Certainly the grandchildren and great grandchildren of American slaves never experienced the appalling life of slavery, and therefore, like the children of Jews and others enslaved in Germany 50 years ago, they have no claim for themselves.

Secondly, blacks do not have a monopoly on living in poverty in this country. According to the latest census data approximately 30 percent of blacks and whites live in poverty. Hispanics unfortunately have an even higher percentage living below the poverty line. All this current day poverty can not be attributed to a disgusting institution that was ended 150 years ago. It can however be attributed to present day governmental policy. There should be a monumental effort made by the government, at all levels, to get all Americans out of poverty, but a policy centered on only one race is just as wrong as slavery was.

Thirdly, slavery could not have existed without the complicity of black Africans who supplied most of the unfortunate humans that were sold into this dreadful condition. It was not just whites that kept this retched institution going for over 200 years. In addition, there were over 200,000 white Americans that paid the ultimate retribution during the Civil War, when they gave their lives to end slavery. The reparation debt owed to slaves was paid a long time ago when the North won the Civil War and freed them.
Reply:exactly dont worry it will never happen on even a remote scale, im not saying im for it or against it. im mearly stating a fact
Reply:Yes well put where does it end? Reparations for all who were slighted. Reparations for all.

As a white person I have no guilt over slavery. All of the people who had slaves in the US are long dead. Most white americans came to the country after the turn of the century. Many whites fought for the north, which lead to the freeing of the slaves, are they guilty too.

I am not responsible for the sins of my father or grandfather, so I am certainly not responsible for things that happened in Amerca before my ancestors ever got here.
Reply:the ones that want it will never get it
Reply:it is complete 100% BULL! How dare anyone try to gain compensation for what happened over 2 centurys ago! And you are absaloutly right there is no culture on earth that wasnt enslaved at some time in history! And NO other race speaks about it anymore. I am Peruvian, our people were slaved, raped and slaughtered by the Spanish, and today there are NO bad feelings between Spain and Peru at all, why the hell should there be? I mean what next compensation from Africa it's self because their own people sold their neighbours to the Europeans? or did they conveniently forget that? All I can say is Thank God few American Blacks are this stupid or pettie, and it is only a few desperados letting down the name.
Reply:It isn't fair. Because that was then and this is now. Time to get past it.
Reply:No amount of money can make up for what one group of people did to another in the past. There have always been groups who've been discriminated against by others, mistreated, misused, abused, etc. I don't know that slavery alone is the issue. It's the abuses one group perpetrates against another. Just looking at American history, each wave of immigrants was treated disgracefully by the ones who came before. It's still happening today. What would be better (fairer) is if we would all learn from past mistakes and treat all peoples fairly and equitably, with dignity and respect, the way God intended.
Reply:They are ready are, but it call disability, unemployment, food stamps or money from the goverment. I am so sorry for these answer but I live in arkansas and I work in place they come in all the time all I have not recieved a client that does have a job.
Reply:ya it is getting a bit out of hand
Reply:The reason that a Small % are asking because they gave reparations to the Japanese Americans for WW2 so they fell they should.Com the hell down people 99% of African Americans are not thinking of that Bull ****.
Reply:Let me ask this if you worked for someone and never got paid how would you feel. I think that if some of the slaves from then were still living I think it would have been good to pay them. As for the ancestors getting paid I think that is a little far. If that's the case then I should get something for my ancestors getting booted off their land and walking the Trail of Tears.
Reply:I think it is crazy to try to do that.
