Do you ever think about what's gone wrong?

Many's the time I've been mistaken

And many times confused

Yes, and I've often felt forsaken

And certainly misused

Oh, but I'm all right, I'm all right

I'm just weary to my bones

Still, you don't expect to be

Bright and bon vivant

So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered

I don't have a friend who feels at ease

I don't know a dream that's not been shattered

or driven to its knees

but it's all right, it's all right

for we lived so well so long

Still, when I think of the

road we're traveling on

I wonder what's gone wrong

I can't help it, I wonder what's gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying

I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly

And looking back down at me

Smiled reassuringly

And I dreamed I was flying

And high up above my eyes could clearly see

The Statue of Liberty

Sailing away to sea

And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower

We come on the ship that sailed the moon

We come in the age's most uncertain hours

and sing an American tune

Oh, and it's alright, it's all right, it's all right

You can't be forever blessed

Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day

And I'm trying to get some rest

That's all I'm trying to get some rest

Do you ever think about what's gone wrong?

What is it with you European Americans? One lady was bragging her?

fore fathers came over on the mayflower. They were the first ones to come to America.

Big deal I told her mine was here to welcome them.

What is it with you European Americans? One lady was bragging her?
When America was "founded" it really wasn't lost. The TRUE Americans were the various American Indian tribes who already inhabited the land and even showed the settlers how to live off it. In essence it's just another false claim in this country's tainted history.

Martin family history?

I'm trying to research if i'm related to the Sussana (North) Martin that was involved with the Salem Witch Trials. Interesting stuff...She was married to George, son of Christopher Martin and Marie Prower. Needing help finding out who's Christophers Father. I can find out that Christopher wasn't a very nice man, and that he was in charge of getting supplies for a trip on the Mayflower. My paternal line is Dean - Frank - Charles - Asa - Sylvester - Seth - Seth - Ephriam. Also could use help finding more on that line too. Most of my family was from Grafton, NH and Rehopboth/Swansea Mass.

What were the names (first and last) of the first pilgrims who came from England?

When did they arrive? Who was the captain of the group? Who was the pastor? When was the first Magna Carta written? What is the Magna Carta? How is it different from the Mayflower Compact? What food did the first pilgrims like to eat? What food did they have when they arrived at Plymouth Rock? Why didn't they travel further south? Where can I find a really informative book on the pilgrims?

WHY is it that the US thinks that it is the most powerful/wonderful nation on the face of the earth?

As someome who was born here in the US (actually my genes go back itteally to the Mayflower), Why should we feel superioer to all others in the world? Does this sounf like Germany 1938?

WHY is it that the US thinks that it is the most powerful/wonderful nation on the face of the earth?
Well, we are the world's superpower both militarily and economically, but we should use that power responsibly instead of arrogantly, otherwise we will lose it. That is why the British empire fell, because it overstepped its bounds.
Reply:You both need some more koolaid Report It
Reply:Because we are an arrogant, selfish, crude, cruel %26amp; power-hungry nation.

It is very unfortunate the US will happily help foreigners, yet the residents who live here have a very hard time getting some form of temporary help from the government.
Reply:I don't feel it is a matter of feeling superior to all others in the world. The fact that we enjoy many freedoms that others do not. Gives us a different out look. Our form of government, gives anyone born here the opportunity to advance to the office of the Presidency. It also protects the person that wants to stand on the corner and decry that very form of government. With out fear of disappearing, never to be heard from again. We can travel from one end of our country to another. Without needing travel documents. We as Americans know we have rights. Know that our fore fathers, fought and died for them. We know that we live in a land of laws. That we had a hand in creating and can change. I have traveled all over the world and have seen first hand. How other countries treat their subjects. I am always happiest when I return home.
Reply:Well, that's really two questions--

a) as to being themost powerful: we have the biggest economy and the most guns. That, as they say, is that.

b) being the best is another matter--and its a sbjective matter. America is my home and as far as I'm concerned, its the best place on earth.

BUT--where I part dcompany absoluutely withthe nationalists is this: I do not feel any need to make derogatory remarks about other countries. Those people have different ways ofdoing things-and they love their homes jsut as we in America love ours. We can criticize things their governments do wrong--but that is not the same as running down their culture. And--we aren't perfect either, muh as I wish we were.

People who feel the need to be "superior" to others only demonstrate that they are inferior.
Reply:don't worry, very soon China will surpass the USA economically, and it's all downhill for the Christian bigots from there
Reply:Because in America freedom is important - even if we have to fight for it; some may try to trample it from time to time, but it is the strength of spirit in the American people that make this country a wonderful country. We are a nation of generous people who have helped other nations worldwide, and have offerred our expertise in the field of medicine and education to all who want to come here and take advantage of the assets we have built. We are the direct opposite of Germany 1938. Why do you think we have an immigration problem? People want to come here - but they don't want to leave. I wouldn't say that was true when Hitler came to town.
Reply:I love America because of the freedoms we have and all of those (past,present, and future) who have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms everyday. Everyday is a new opportunity for something. You can be with the one you love, hang out with anyone you like, apply for any job, speak your mind, travel anywhere..... sing, dance, practice any religion. I'm not saying that I feel like I am better than anyone because I am an American. I just feel very blessed and fortunate that I am one.
Reply:Nope.

We make better choices.

We are better.

We have a responsibility to see that other people have the same opportunities.

Don't deny the obvious.
Reply:The USA has the most Nukes and can beat anyone up.
Reply:Well it is the most powerful it terms of miltary... If your genes go back to the mayflower your ancestors must have known Mr. George W. Bush's ancestors... perhaps. Both my parents are from India and well they don't know famous people. But back to you question. It's cause Americans have the world showcased to them in an "Americancentric" perspective, they are usually taught the positives of America and the negative aspects are downplayed. Also instead of trying to improve the bad aspects of the nations, other negative aspects of other nations are tageted and exploited to bolster a stronger domestic image. In doing so people inadvertently forget about the problems at home and only remember the good stuff. And no America does not sound like Nazi Germany. America has many good people, unfortunately the bad ones run the federal government now. Best wishes for your nation in 2009.
Reply:Well.....america was the most powerfull nation...but now i highly doubt it. Clinton made the military a lot smaller, Bush made that little military go to Iraq and Afghanistan...is there peace? no. Will there ever be? no. America has bigger problems that terrorism. like the economy. its going down to ****. The dollar becoms weaker, the euro stronger. Its sad to see this happen to what once was one of the greatest nations in the world. Now its just full of violence, hate, and many uneducated people. It proves that you cant live in paradise forever. Wait till the gas prices go up again.....or when there is no more gas. Good bye trucks and SUVs. The world is changing and the usa isnt following. poor judgement, bad leaders, lazy people, has put america on a downward path.
Reply:Perhaps because it is? There are flights and ships leaving the country every day, and I bet there is a place for you. You might try Cuba, Iran, or some other country more to your liking. I'm sure they would appreciate and seek your glowing advice and wisdom.

Illegal immigration?

where did our forefathers from the mayflower get their legal immigration visas?

Illegal immigration?
My foregathers weren't on the mayflower. In all likihood, yours weren't either. The survival rates of early colonies were apallingly low.

In any case, the early English colonists reached an accomodation with the dominant political power in the region, the Iroquois Confederation, known as the Covenant Chain that lasted, nearly, to the time of the American Revolution.
Reply:Columbus discovered America in 1492

The Constitution of the United States was proposed September 17, 1787, and officially began operating (as a government) March 4, 1789.

The Constitution of the US was ratified by 9 states. New Hampshire was the ninth State to ratify. The date of its action was June 21, 1788. Virginia and New York ratified the Constitution a few days later, and before the date fixed for commencing the operations of the government. For the first time, there was such a thing as CITIZENSHIP of the United States. That citizenship did not extend to North Carolina until January 28, 1790, or to Rhode Island until June 1, 1790, for those States delayed their ratification until after the operations of the government had begun.
Reply:Visa wasn't even a word then....... LOL!!!!!!! Get a clue scrooge....
Reply:At the time of the pilgrims there were NO Immigration laws in place. Therefore no visa'a were required. there also was no country established so they were considered more of Pioneers than immagrants.

This differs very much from todays immagrants as the country and laws are established. Therefore immagrants today without proper process are considered ILLEGAL and should return to where they came. Proper documented immagrants are welcome to stay and become a vivrant part of this great nation.

Hope that answers your question.
Reply:You need to ask them that question. Things have changed a very great deal, haven't they.

Today, you get their immigration papers from the U.S. Government. I would point out that there are a number of countries where they need people very badly and you may want to immigration there yourself. Libya, for example, would more than welcome you if you would go there.
Reply:they just made them up, back then it was okay.
Reply:Well I heard they tried to get visas but there was no Central Government to apply to so they assumed that it was OK.

You know, they just figured if anyone cared they would at least make laws or post a notice or something.
Reply:There were no laws at the time, actually they received permission from the King of England, who had laid claim to New England.

As for my grandparents, they had legal entry visas before they even got on the boat to come over.
Reply:It's a dog eat dog world. Yes there was no **** like computers and such. But Everyone knew and understood what could and would happen to the week. So there was no need to have immigration visas for our forefathers. Indians also understood what would happen if they did not protect their way of life.. So even though they fought as best as possible, all through out that time, they understood what would happen if they lost against other invaders.(also know as the white man).

Our forefathers did not need immigration visas because we were the stronger of the ??? forces, nations, peoples??? and were able to get control of this land, that at the time was thought to be new land so to speak..and the Indian was unable to hold onto it.
Reply:They bought forged documents from Jose's cousin.
Reply:Didn't you hear? God promised them that land. So immigration was ok. And Biblical style genocide was practically mandatory.
Reply:Did the Native Indians get theirs also?
Reply:People without valid arguments for illegal immigration always want to dwell in the past. The problems we have are in the present and they must be dealt with in the present.
Reply:There were no laws back then to warrant Visas. They were fleeing persecution and sought freedom. So, technically would they not have been refugees anyway?
Reply:I don't think they existed back then.

Lawless and unexplored at the time, I think.

Actually, I think immigration has been taking place since before recorded history. It would seem most likely.

I'm sure the natives at the time weren't the first to come to the land now known as The United States.

Soon thereafter, the Speedwell crew reported that their ship was taking in water, so both were diverted to Dartmouth, Devon. There it was inspected for leaks and sealed, but a second attempt to depart also failed, bringing them only so far as Plymouth, Devon. It was decided that Speedwell was untrustworthy, and it was sold. It would later be learned that crew members had deliberately caused the ship to leak, allowing them to abandon their year-long commitments. The ship's master and some of the crew did transfer to Mayflower for the trip.

What kind of animals did they bring?

What kind of anmials did the Pilgrims bring on the Mayflower I need more than 2.

What kind of animals did they bring?
the only animals known with certainty to have come on the Mayflower were two dogs, an English mastiff and an English spaniel, who are mentioned on a couple of occasions in the Pilgrims' journals.

it seems likely that they had with them some chickens, because chicken broth was given by Mayflower passenger Edward Winslow to the Wampanoag sachem Massasoit when he was sick in early 1622; and it is also likely they brought some pigs, and perhaps even a few goats. In 1623, Emmanual Altham visited Plymouth and reported there were six goats, fifty pigs, and many chickens.

Social Studies HELP.?
Hey Here are the answers.

1. The natural resources of the New England Colonies included fish, whales, trees and furs.The natural resources of the Southern Colonies included rich farm land, forests and fish. Middle colonies: Cattle, grain, fish, lumber and iron. There was also fur, whales and oil.

2.The Mayflower Compact was important because it allowed the Pilgrims to freely commit as equals to their new society and Jesus Christ, and provided just and equal laws that could be built on, agreed to and enforced. The Mayflower Compact is an important document as proof that when men join together for the good of all and commit themselves to a lasting covenant, far reaching goals can be attained.

3. The purpose of the Navigation Acts was to strengthen England and make it richer. These laws were that only ships built in England or the colonies could carry goods to and from the colonies. The other law was that any ship carrying European goods to America, first had to stop in England.

4. A right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty

A right against unreasonable searches of person

and place of residence

A right against arrest without probable cause

A right against unreasonable seizures of personal

property

A right against self-incrimination

A right to fair questioning by the police

A right to protection from physical harm

throughout the justice process

A right to an attorney

A right to trial by jury

A right to know the charges

A right to cross-examine prosecution witnesses

A right to speak and present witnesses

A right not to be tried twice for the same crime

A right against cruel or unusual punishment

A right to due process

A right to a speedy trial

A right against excessive bail

A right against excessive fines

A right to be treated the same as others,

regardless of race, sex, religious preference, and

other personal attributes

5. The Bill of Rights states what the government cannot do and assert the rights given to the people and which no law or government action can interfere.

6. The three-fifths rule was the result of a compromise proposed by Northern abolitionists.Slaves didn't vote, of course. But the Constitution mandated that slaves be considered three-fifths of a person, giving a great deal of power to slaves owners and slave states.
Reply:You're most welcome. :-) Report It
Reply:the purpose of the bill of rights is to give the equal amount of freedom to each person.
Reply:Not sure, but I think:

1. Rum, tea, and monkeys.

2. Because the Mayflower was too big. They had to compact it.

3. To misspell Navigation Acts.

4. Only one: The right to party. And you have to fight for it.

5. To obtain payment for the rights.

6. If you drink three fifths, as a rule you will be hammered.

What Strange Aberrational Idea Of History Did You Have As A Child?

Don't ask me why, but as a child I always believed that the Pilgrims' ship (the Mayflower) was some sort of cruise ship. Maybe I was sleeping during class but I truly believed the Pilgrims sailed from Europe to Plymouth rock on a ship the size of the Queen Mary 2. Moreover, I pictured the first Thanksgiving as this catered in-door resort banquet with sumptuous turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and plenty of pumpkin pie.

What Strange Aberrational Idea Of History Did You Have As A Child?
This was my daughter's history aberration. She must have been about 5 or 6 years old, and influenced by a room in our house where many family photos, some 100 years old, are hung. We noticed that she'd talk about the people in the pictures as being in "the black and white days". I told her that my great-grandmother (in a picture) looked like my sister. "But Aunt Janie is in color," she commented. I thought that sounded odd. When her grandparents came to visit, she asked them about something when they were in the black and white days. It hit me that she really thought that people were in black and white back then. I told her that people had color back then, only the cameras couldn't make color. She got really upset -- blinking and trembling. It was like I had told her the world was only in her imagination.

What's the name of the store that won't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving?

I seen it on the news the other day, this one particular department store refuses to rush the Christmas season. They have signs up throughout the store that say stuff like "Santa didn't come on the Mayflower" and "Let's talk turkey first, then we'll talk about Christmas." They want to celebrate the holidays in their proper order. I think it's great! What do you all think about it, and does anyone know what the name of it is and where it's at?

Genealogist conderrick each other? also advice here?

Another question with genealogy. When I was in high school I lived with a genealogist. She helped take care of me. Anyways, I really didn't pay much attention but she told my dad's side, the last name, she traced them to them Mayflower. That were relatives. I never asked any questions or got paperwork but it explained what my grandfather said to me. Anyways I moved after high school and she moved to another state. We lost contact.

Another one of my releatives either got paper work from the archives or had a genealogist do the tree.

Anyways the results say two different things. I'm having my relative send me the copies.

I think I already found the error but I'm waiting for the copies of the papers to be sent. My relatives paper list the wrong Charles and that is not my gg grandmothers name. Also the newpaper article which has been passed down the famliy conderdicks this too.

Also is this normal for genealogist to conerdick each other?

Genealogist conderrick each other? also advice here?
Yes, it is common for genealogists to have different information. Sometimes it is caused by misinterpreting information, and sometimes it is because one researcher doesn't have the sources another researcher has.

The best thing to do is to verify the sources of all information. As you say, you think you've found the error. When you correct it, be sure to cite sources to back up your correction. Know that primary sources (such as deeds and marriage licenses) are superior to newspaper articles or what someone remembers what someone else said.
Reply:Conflicting results is almost standard in genealogy. When it is glaring, it is easily seen. The problem can be when people don't SEE or realize the issue, and just accept someone else's work, without verifying it. Sadly, this is even more common with the internet, when people are just THRILLED TO see someone else has "done" the work, copy a whole database, then pass it to the next person.

Many people are insulted, if you question the source of their conclusion. Good researchers are happy to say what record they used to "prove" the research. Different types of sources vary in how reliable they are. A court document is more likely accurate than a biography, for instance. Or, someone takes the easy route (like a published book), and makes no effort to see if the book is accurate. In early days, it was more common to use the same name in a family, and have 3 or 4 Charles.. and it can be hard to sort which one belongs to the record. Even well known genealogists can be lazy or wrong, as I learned on one of my lines. And she was a professional.

It really taught me a lot to see the contradiction, and work it through.

The other frequent pitfall is new researchers, who take family tradition as gospel. Many researchers are more concerned with finding a prestigious line, than being accurate. And very insulted if you see the mistake.

Anytime someone asks you "what is your source for that?", be happy, not insulted. Comparing notes (especially in disputed conclusions) is a great check and balance.
Reply:CONTRADICT. IT'S CONTRADICT! Lots of luck fixing 500 years of conflicting genealogy. Again, it's C-O-N-T-R-A-D-I-C-T.

Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

After the Idol last night they aired a new show; "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?"

It was pretty good show I thought! Does anyone feel similiar to me?? I wouldn't have had a chance on there. I am NOT smarter then a 5th grader ;-).. allthough the "Mayflower" was an easy one!

Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
Yes I'm smarter than a fifth grader. They should turn it around for the second half of the show and have the fifth graders figure out which mortgage rates are the best, and then they should have to balance a checkbook, and then decide which bills to pay and which ones to let slide for another month because there's not enough money in the bank, and then figure out why the baby's crying while the dinner's burning on the stove....now THAT'S smart.
Reply:I would so have a million dollars right now. I really can't believe that most adults have forgotten so much. Maybe since I homeschool it keeps my brain more focused on those things.
Reply:i wanted to watch it really, but the perforners on American Idol were so boring that i fell asleep.... sorry
Reply:it just goes to show you how unimportant most of the stuff you learn in school is in life...
Reply:never heard of it, I'll definitely have to watch it
Reply:probably not, I don't use most of that information in my daily life. the show was okay, but I thought some of it was a little mean-spirited.
Reply:I completely agree with you....the mayflower was the only one I knew too...

I'm only 28 right now and have two little ones(3yr old and 1yr old)

and even while being pregnant with my first one I already started thinking I should try to review everything I learned (from elementary, jr. high, and high school) because I'd forgotten so much now and I want to be able to help my children with their studies or homework when they go to school, not look like an idiot to them because it's been so long since I went to school that I've forgotten everything so I wouldn't be able to help when they need it
Reply:hey i do not even know if im smarter than second grader
Reply:It was rather pathetic. That UCLA guy didn't get anything right. I am 29 and I only didn't know the math problem. The triangle.

I thought that one message this show gives out is "hey kids, after you get out of school, you'll never need to know any of the stuff you're learning" Good thing it airs after bedtime.

I don't see this one lasting. I also wonder how they choose the contestants, and do the kids get any money for being the ones who actually answer the questions??
Reply:well they picked stupid adults and smart kids, coincidence? I think not. And the first guy used all 3 of his cheats on the first 3 questions...dang he was stupid.
Reply:i watched someof it it was pretty good i got mad a couple times cause i was screaming the answers and they just wouldnt listen too me but for the majority those 5th graders would had kicked my butt
Reply:It was better than I thought it would be. I had fun watching it with my kids and these days there aren't many shows you can watch as a family. I like it!
Reply:that was an interesting show, i thoought and i would of had the chance to end up with a million dollars come on those questions are easy how can anybody not know the answer, but what was funny was that UCLA Graduate who didn't know who was the first president of the united states that was impeached was andrew johnson. but anyways i liked it

Moving companies?

Does anyone have any moving experiences with the Mayflower moving company or have anyone that they can recommend, we are moving from AZ to ID......good, bad experiences??

Moving companies?
Mayflower is not bad; I have used them and a couple others. The most important thing when picking a company is find out how they are insured and how your stuff will be handled and moved. I also make sure they do background checks on their movers. Keep all your information about the company with you, have all of their numbers, and a copy of your contract and item list! I would number your boxes and make a list of what is in each box. This way it makes it easier to spot if something is missing. I have had this happen. The only other issue that I have ever had with a moving company is the time issue. Make sure they are very clear on when your stuff will be there and make sure they give you a date or a one or two date range. Another company that I used was United Van Lines and they were pretty good. I really have no complaints about them. They arrived pretty much on time which was nice. Here is their website:

Hope this helps you good luck on your move!

My floor is a MESS help?

we are in the process of sprucing up our kitchen.we have discovered not 1 but 3 layers of floor covering. one sections has been proven to be chip board. need ideas on what to do and best for covering. think the cover now came on the mayflower

My floor is a MESS help?
Take off the three layers down to the basic floor, put on a smooth filler, and after things have settled, lay linoleum.
Reply:Just completely take up all 3 layers %26amp; start fresh put down new sub floor %26amp; then put leveler down if needed in the kitchen I'd say put down cermic tile it's time consuming but when it's done you'll love it %26amp; it's easy 2 take care of.
Reply:you can buy a floor leveler product to fill "pot holes" put down underlayment on top of all three layers, if you would like to, then new floor covering.
Reply:pull up old floring down to where its the same level as the rooms attached ( eliminate trip factors). put down new underlayment(1/4" luan) and staple it down using at least 1 1/2" staples, 1 every 6 square inchs(a 6" sqaure would take four staples), sand all adjoining seams flat fill in all cracks and divots from pounding in staples that freaked, run your hand across entire floor surface any staples that are sticking up need to be beaten down fil those divots also let dry and sand smooth. sweep floor then vacuum 3 -4 times . this may seem excessive but a grain of sand under vinyl or god forbid peel and stick or vct tile will look like a mountain. after thats done roll out vinyl cut into place and with a roll of duct tape tape off all outside corners in both directions also tape any other stress point ( this minimizes the chance of ripping your sheet goods). then fold it back in half and spread a thinset type glue let dry til tacky and roll sheet over the glue and with a 2 ft piece of 2x4 w/ towel wrapped around it w/ pressure slide it back and fourth across the floor pushing out all the air bubbles then again goin in a 90 degree from that direction . fold back other half and repeat. make sure when done you put new boarder down either new base boards( old ones get messed up in demo) or cove base and put bead of caulk around doorways. this keeps it down and wont let it curl up down the road. other people have answered using the peel and stick tile. as a pro i refuse to install them. they dont adhere properly and shift. also. when you mop your floor the cleaning agents seep into the cracks and interact w/ the adhesive and the next thing you know youve got ugly black gooy lines on the edges of your tile. for the money vinyl is the cheapest way to go and easiest to replace. cermic tile even w/ backer board over wood cracks and chipped tiles are expensive to replace. also, depending on traffic, the glaze gets worn off and you have to pay to have your floor re-glazed. vct tile leave that for over concrete applications. then theres wood floors,you could go w/ laminates or the solid 3/4" planks, but then in time the floor has to be refinished due to traffic, sliding chairs, stains etc. re finishing can cost as much as replacing vinyl. the choice is up to you i'd go w/ the vinyl, most are no wax ,just damp mop.
Reply:Rip everything up to the sub floor.

Repair loose floor boards, lay Durock over subfloor with screws and thinset ceramic tile.

Or, 1/2 plywood screwed to subfloor, and lay vinyl tiles.

Or same treatment and lay sheet flooring.
Reply:The subfloor needs to stay if it's not molded or otherwise damaged. (3/4" OSB or Vantech)

The top 2 layers may need to come off, or not.

What type flooring is it?

What type flooring is going down?

(If removing tile flooring beware. A lot of the old stuff does contain asbestos)
Reply:the MAYFLOWER floor could contain asbestos. take precautions.
Reply:LOL that's funny I don't know what to say to help you but the comment about it coming over on the mayflower was a bit funny

What makes an "illegal" immigrant illegal?

Here is my point: I am part English/German and part Cherokee. The English part of my family came over on the ship after the Mayflower, called Fortune. Cherokee people have been here since the land bridge between Alaska and Russia. Neither time did any of my ancestors have to fill out paperwork or give the government (admitedly, nonexistant) a chunk of their money, or belongings. What is the big deal? These people were looking to improve their lives, as are many "aliens" today.

I'm just wondering, also, how many people that are against immigrants, "legal" or "illegal" can claim to be first generation? Many native Americans that I speak with don't care. Why should you?

What makes an "illegal" immigrant illegal?
It's just the "cool" thing to do right now, there are so many followers out there and not enough leaders.
Reply:In today's society laws and rules are put in place, to give some sort of order to everyday life. Imagine having a child and not setting boundaries and rules. How do you think the child will act or grow up as, with no rules to follow?

Society decided that immigration policy was a step to decide who came to live and work in the country. Would you rather open the doors and let in anyone, no matter what their background? A few hundred years ago immigration policy did not exist, so it was not an issue. Today it is, and it is law, and should be followed
Reply:I'm sorry, but you don't have a point. Today, 2007, we have a system of government and a system of laws. A person who enters the United States "uninspected" (sneaking over the border) or a person who comes here with a visa and stays past the date he/she's supposed to leave is an illegal alien.

%26gt;

%26gt; From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen to the news about

%26gt; should be aware of:

%26gt;

%26gt; I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large

%26gt; southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school,

%26gt; meaning

%26gt; that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.

%26gt;

%26gt; Most of the schools you are hearing about, South GateHigh, Bell Gardens,

%26gt; Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also

%26gt; Title 1

%26gt; schools.

%26gt;

%26gt; Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I

%26gt; say

%26gt; free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full

%26gt;

%26gt; I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least

%26gt;

%26gt; I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding

%26gt; was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer

%26gt; graffiti

%26gt; by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to

%26gt; have a

%26gt; free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)

%26gt;

%26gt; I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers

%26gt; whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the

%26gt; country less

%26gt; then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling

%26gt; them

%26gt; "Putas" whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.

%26gt;

%26gt; Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it

%26gt; any

%26gt; wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand

%26gt; rights, privileges and entitlements?

%26gt;

%26gt; To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants

%26gt; contribute

%26gt; to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they

%26gt; like

%26gt; to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal

%26gt; immigration and see the TRUE costs.

%26gt;

%26gt; Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more

%26gt; crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new

%26gt; diseases

%26gt; etc., etc, etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

%26gt;

%26gt; We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because

%26gt; we

%26gt; won't have the guts to enforce it.

%26gt; Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave

%26gt; and

%26gt; return?

%26gt;

%26gt; There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to

%26gt; our

%26gt; country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and

%26gt; accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way.

%26gt;

%26gt; It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world

%26gt; culture

%26gt; that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and

%26gt; dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an

%26gt; American

%26gt; culture that has become so weak and worried about "politically correct"

%26gt; that we

%26gt; don't have the will to do anything about it.

%26gt;

%26gt; If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone

%26gt; you

%26gt; know.

%26gt;

%26gt; CHEAP LABOR?

%26gt; Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?

%26gt;

%26gt; Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.

%26gt;

%26gt; Consumers don't want expensive produce.

%26gt;

%26gt; Government will tell you Americans don't want the jobs.

%26gt;

%26gt; But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a

%26gt; farce, and a lie. there is no such thing as "cheap labor."

%26gt;

%26gt; Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He

%26gt; takes

%26gt; a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays

%26gt; no

%26gt; income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return,

%26gt; he

%26gt; gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.

%26gt;

%26gt; He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.

%26gt;

%26gt; He qualifies for food stamps.

%26gt;

%26gt; He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.

%26gt;

%26gt; His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.

%26gt;

%26gt; He requires bilingual teachers and books.

%26gt;

%26gt; He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.

%26gt;

%26gt; If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.

%26gt; Once

%26gt; qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our)

%26gt; taxpayer's expense.

%26gt;

%26gt; He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners

%26gt; insurance.

%26gt;

%26gt; Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.

%26gt;

%26gt; He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in

%26gt; benefits.

%26gt;

%26gt; Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying

%26gt; their bills and his.

%26gt;

%26gt; The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash

%26gt; clean-up.

%26gt;

%26gt; Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people. THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE

%26gt; SHOULD

%26gt; BE ADDRESSING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR EITHER PARTY. AND WHEN

%26gt; THEY

%26gt; LIE TO US AND DON'T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE !
Reply:Laws change. Just because people were able to enter freely in the past is no reason to think they should be able to do so now when laws prohibit this. The position of a "native" means nothing more than any other citizen.

Perhaps you believe it is acceptable to disregard the laws?
Reply:It was unclaimed land back then (obviously the Indians claimed it but it wasn't law). You could show up and take it and many Europeans did just that. Over time the land was bought and fought over.

Today its the United States. Every country in the world as laws that state you need to come into their country legally following their laws. We are no different. I can't just get on a plane to Europe. I would be arrested same as if they do that here. Illegals just assume that because they can walk across the border that its open for them. They want us to pay for their education, health care, food, and housing. This wouldn't be a problem if they paid taxes for it and got legal jobs to pay for this stuff.
Reply:"Neither time did any of my ancestors have to fill out paperwork or give the government (admitedly, nonexistant) a chunk of their money, or belongings. "

You are right on. Government and laws did not exist and they didn't HAVE to do those things.

That is NOT the case today.
Reply:They are illegal because they are breaking the laws of this country 1st coming in UNDOCUMENTED then either making up a SS number or stealing someone else's.

As far as your heritage and what happened in the last century git over it.

I am an natural born American as were all my grandparents and their grandparents.

I am not sure what some of these people did but I am sure some of it wouldn't pass muster today.

I have never owned a slave or known one.

Never committed a massacre or participated in genocide.

There fore I refuse to feel any personal guilt for any thing these people I never met did or didn't do to any one anywhere, ever.
Reply:Welcome to 2007...where there are formal laws.

Comparisons to your ancestors mean nothing today.

Other ancestors crawled around on all fours and ate with their hands and their feet. Please tell me you don't eschew forks and knives because they did.
Reply:This continent is now called The United States of America - we rightfully won and paid for this land. We are a nation of laws - if you're unable or unwilling to respect them and obey them, feel free to take a hike.

Since we have conquered this land, millions of Americans have been born. If anyone wants to become a citizen of this country they need to earn it - background check, learn English, learn US history.. Those don't come freely, you know!

You can't keep living in the past - accept what is and move on with your life.

Mexico is a fully conquered nation - that means they killed so-called Natives of that land to claim their territory.. Should they give the land back? I don't think so! It's called survival of the fittest - Darwin figured it out, why can't you?!

"Just because something is law doesn't make it right.." Hhhm.. Well, for your information, each person in the world has their own idea of what is wrong and right - take, for example, Muslim extremists who behead anyone who 'disrespects' Allah. LAWS ARE LAWS. RESPECT OR STAY AWAY. Feel free to overtake your own land and call it your own, make your own laws.

- - - - -

If you don't like the American laws that are in place then go to another country. We are not going to change our way of living to accommodate anyone else.
Reply:Yours, and every other Americans family history has NOTHING to do with illegal trespassing (NOT immigration. Immigration is for those who enter America under the laws of America). I am also part Cherokee, but did you know the Indians were NOT the first peoples here? They, the Indians want science shut-up, when scientists have found sculls, and bones on the East coast dating back before the Indians, that were NOT of Indian decent, so your assumption has no merit. Indian tribes go to court claiming to want their burial places kept alone. Hmmmm, I wonder why????? To keep the world from knowing the truth??????

If you break into America, without following the laws of the land, you're a CRIMINAL, and have NO rights!
Reply:times are differant than the 18th or 19th century....noone says people cannot come to america legally, in fact when immagrents come here legally they are welcome. you just cant move to any country illegally. you can't just move to canada. the problem lies with people breaking laws on borders and yes they even have immagration laws in mexico.

all you need is a document green card or a passport or a visa.

oh and your ancesters did file paperwork if they came legally.

our social security system and welfare and health care systems are already in turmoil. most of the monies earned by "illegal alliens" or UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS go back to mexico and not where they earned it. why do some people think america is supposed to just let any one come over?.

this is why we have laws and by the way other countries don't allow illegals either.....do it legal,,,,no problem,,,,,do it illegally get deported PERIOD.
Reply:The law is the law. Passports and visas are required to enter and live in the US today for a reason. Public health concerns and national security are the most important reasons to control who stays here and who cannot. I often hear "undocumented aliens" are only here to get work and better their lives. Using this logic, is it OK for me to drive 100 mph through every red light on my way to work simply because I want to work and improve my life?

Immigration laws must be obeyed for the sake of public safety and anyone who circumvents these laws is by definition a "CRIMINAL ALIEN"!
Reply:So if all the illegals are harming our country we should just let them in.today has nothing to do with two hundred years ago dumb ***.
Reply:Looking to improve ones life is done by following the rules. You just don't jump to the front of the line. Sneaking across the border is a violation of the sovereign laws of this country. When coming across the border illegally that event renders them law breakers. Getting jobs without the proper paperwork renders them law breakers. If people of the USA cannot and are not allow to move into Mexico at will, or obtain jobs without red tape why then should this country allow it.
Reply:Crossing the border and living under the law makes them illegal. The issue is now, not a couple of hundred years ago...
Reply:You ancestors paid for America in the revolutionary war, world war 1%26amp;11, korea, Viet Nam, now Iraq and was not given to us but was a hostile land that was tamed. You probably do not mind taking the milk and honey but want to ***** because colonists came and settled a barren hostile, unliviable environment and turned it into something great that the whole world envies. You should quit feeling guilty over this success and thank the men and women who came many years before you for this way of life. Soon, son, if we do not stop the influx of illegal aliens destroying our land even the indians would not take the land back. Mexicans had the same opportunity to make mexico a country their citizens would be proud of but they blew it.
Reply:I was born here which makes me an American,so are ancor babies.

Pleaseee help me i swere ill give u the best answer?
The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of Plymouth Colony. It was drafted by the Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, seeking religious freedom. It was signed on November 11, 1620 in what is now Provincetown Harbor near Cape Cod. The original document was lost, but the transcriptions in Mourt's Relation and William Bradford's journal Of Plymouth Plantation are in agreement and accepted as accurate. Bradford's hand written manuscript is kept in a special vault at the State Library of Massachusetts. Bradford's transcription is as follows:

the Mayflower Compact was in essence a social contract in which the settlers consented to follow the rules and regulations of the government for the sake of survival. The government, in return, would derive its power from the consent of the governed.The compact is often referred to as the foundation of the Constitution of the United States,[1] in a figurative, not literal, way, although is often mistakenly thought to be the first Constitution in America. The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut actually hold this honor. As a side note, the 'dread soveraigne' referred to in the document used the archaic definition of dread; meaning awe and reverence

Will someone help me with some U.s History questions?

Who was the 1st European to land in the new World?

The first permanent European settlement in the new World?

Main product of French economy in the New World?

Name the religious groups that sought religious freedom?

1st permanent English settlement in the New World?

What was the mayflower Compact?

If you know the answer to all or some of thse questions please help.

Will someone help me with some U.s History questions?
The first known European was Leif Eiriksson, a viking explorer that landed in the New World 500 years before Christopher Columbus. However, they didn't stay because they attacked and outnumbered by the Native Americans.

The first settlement was La Isabela, founded by Columbus on 1543. The first one in North America was Roanoke Island.

The French colonies' economy was based on trade of furs with the Native Americans.

The Puritans came to America to stop being discriminated by the English Church.

The first permanent colony was Jamestown.

The Mayflower Compact was the second governing document of Plymouth Colony. It was drafted by the Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic.
Reply:First European -- probably Leif Ericsson

First permanent European settlement -- Spanish, St. Augustine (1645), English - Jamestown, 1607

Main product of French economy -- I would guess furs.

Religious groups -- probably they are referring to the Puritans, but also the Catholics went to Maryland because it promised not to discriminate against them, and Roger Williams founded Rhode Island after leaving Massachusetts in a religious dispute.The Mayflower Compact was the document signed by the settlers from the Mayflower agreeing among themselves that they would be governed by the majority.
Reply:Big debate about First question -

I'm going with an unknown Viking. Many people say Lief Erickson - but was he the first one off the ship? or was he the leader of the voage?

How can I find out if I am a decendant of Royal Blood?

I can trace my ancestry back to about 1700 here in the states. I was told that our family came over on the Mayflower and that we are a decendant of Capt John Underhill. But have no link from 1700 connecting us to him? Also found family name in historical "the Doomsday Book", working for a King of England..last name 'Underhill". Thanks

How can I find out if I am a decendant of Royal Blood?
It takes a lot of work. You could pay a professional genealogist to search for you, but that can be over $100 an hour. Basically, just put in the time, searching records and asking around.
Reply:try ancestory.com it is all records in the cencus and records bureau of Utah....the big info bank there,....and it is fun to see others and find family for others documenting their history too!

I Have A Bunch of Random Questions?

1) I am writing a play for these neighborhood kids who are 10,11, and 12. It's supposed to be about Indians and the settlers that came here on the Mayflower. What should happen in it?

2) Are you interested in historical fiction? Would you be interested in this kind of story: It's the time of the pioneers and this girls dad died when she was 8. Her new stepdad beats her and whips her for no reason. She runs away with a boy when she is 12 and her siblings who are still toddlers. She lived in the mountains with the boy. Two years later she gets married. A year later she has a baby. I 'm not finished the rest.

3) Do you like history?

1b) Thankfulness for well being

1c) A second chance in the lifetime of the early settlers.

2) Yes. I would not portray or elaborate in the whipping of children, particularly if it is intended to a young audience. I would focus on the survival and intriguing adventures of kids in the New World. I would follow up with a runaway Indian and the hardships of the times (No TV, no medicines, etc.)

1F - compact - –adjective 1. joined or packed together; closely and firmly united; dense; solid

2 The virgina house of Burgesses was the first legislative body in the new world. This was a landmark for representation by the people and would be later used to be a model for congress.

3 The mayflower compact was the first written goverment plan for the new world. Many of the passengers on the mayflower knew that earlier settlements in the New World had failed due to a lack of government, and the Mayflower Compact was in essence a social contract in which the settlers consented to follow the rules and regulations of the government for the sake of survival. The government, in return, would derive its power from the consent of the governed.

4 The glorious revolution can be argued that James' overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy; never again would the monarch hold absolute power. The deposition of the Catholic James II finally and firmly established Protestantism in England. Magna Carta was the most significant early influence on the long historical process that led to the rule of constitutional law today. Magna Carta was originally created because of disagreements between Pope Innocent III, King John and his English barons about the rights of the King. Magna Carta required the king to renounce certain rights, respect certain legal procedures and accept that the will of the king could be bound by law.

Hope that helps good luck!

Reply:Virginia House of Burgesses was the first legislative body in colonial America.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Revolution of 1688, commonly known as the Glorious Revolution was the overthrow of James II of England in 1688 by a union of Parliamentarians and the Dutch stadhouder William III of Orange-Nassau (William of Orange). It is sometimes called the Bloodless Revolution, although there was fighting and loss of life in Ireland and Scotland. Many modern historians prefer the term "Revolution of 1688", as "Glorious" or "Bloodless" reflect the biases of Whig historians. The Revolution is closely tied in with the events of the War of the Grand Alliance on the continent of Europe, and may be seen as the last successful invasion of England.[1] It can be argued that James' overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy; never again would the monarch hold absolute power. The deposition of the Catholic James II finally and firmly established Protestantism in England."

I'm starting a small collection of books about American history?

for my personal library. Has anyone read anything interesting? I've bought 1776, the Mayflower, the complete writings of Andrew Jackson and Benjamin Franklin, and a Constitution for Dummies style book . . . Any suggestions would be appreciated. Easy to understand please. Ideally I'd like to have about twenty books which would accurately reflect American history between the mid 1600's to the mid 1800's.

I'm starting a small collection of books about American history?
I have this book titled "Generations" and its about the US generations dating back to colonial times. I would categorize it in the history section as well because it relates to historical figures. Its really interesting and I tend to reference it in script writing.
Reply:John Adams and Benjamin Franklin were excellent reads. Higgins I think is the author.

Is illegal immigration a real problem?

Its been going on since the border was established between the U.S.A. and Mexico. Its been going on since the Mayflower. And nothing negative has happend. The U.S.A. is a mayor power made up by immigrants (legal and illegal). So do not be so narrow minded and think that all the evils in the U.S.A is due to illegal immigrants. Next time you see one (which for you would be anyone that looks hispanic) thank him for making this country strong.

Is illegal immigration a real problem?
So much fear in the air. . .this works good for our great leaders who wish to control the weak minded cowards . .

I thought this country was the land of the brave. . .Seems to me all the brave have been sent to fight in Iraq as all I hear in the states is a bunch of punks who shiver whenever their leaders (of FOX) tells them to. Good Lord I thought I would never see the day so many cowards would be shaking in their panties over nothing at all.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Reminds me of Chicken Little. . "The illegals are coming", "The illegals are coming" Helllooooooo. . .SFW!. .they been here since before we were born!!!

Fred the dog: You quote the DOJ "Statistics" used by "immigration Experts" and fail to provide the specific "Statistics" or names of the so called "experts" Know what that tells me. . B.S. . .NADA!

You also state the the illegal population in America is 1 % of our population. . .HELLOOOO. . . I guess that blows the 11-12 Million figure right out the freaking redneck trailer window. Hmmmm. . .let me see. . .300,000,000 x 0.01 = 3,000,000

NOT 11-12 or even 30 Million. . OMG. . what a revelation!. . I feel so much safer now. . I can't wait to tell my friends!!!
Reply:This issue is an affective diversion from way more important matters. The news manipulates and quite effectively.

It is a problem, but only for population purposes. If you were born poor and hungry, wouldn't you be running across the border like everyone else?
Reply:You know, illegal immigration is a real problem and it does not necessarily have to do with Mexico citizens.

There are people who are attempting to enter the U.S. from other countries abroad and are completing the necessary paperwork. However, these people are doing so fraudulently with documents that are entirely fake.

So please don't think that immigration is all about what is contained at the border. Check out the state department's web site and you will see plenty of cases that have been foiled for entry from many countries abroad.

You are right that there are many people who have migrated here so long ago - that's what makes this country so great - the big melting pot! The thing is, many countries have a "visiting/living" process and limit their entries as well. What I don't understand is why so many make a big deal about America asking for the proper paperwork for any individual entering its boundaries?
Reply:No thanks. I'd rather send them back and preserve our rights as citizens rather than be sponged off of by illegal non-tax paying squatters. They use our roads without paying taxes. They drive without licenses and insurance so that our legal citizens are left holding the bag because they are uninsured and illegal.

Just think, if you got those 15 or so million illegals to pay the same taxes I did last year (16,000) our government would have 240 trillion, yes trillion dollars to fund things like the roads, feeding the homeless, lowering our taxes, etc....

What makes them so special?
Reply:yes it is a real problem, past legal immigrants built the country, sacrificed for this country, gave to this country, todays illegal immigrants sponge off our resources and take from legal citizens
Reply:Yes illegal immigration is a problem.

Since illegal immigration has been going on for such a long time, does that make it right?? No it doesn't!! If I steal cars every other day for 5 or 6 years, does that make it right??? No it doesn't!!

Americans have no problem with immigrants coming into the US if they 1) adapt to the American way of life, 2) learn to speak English and 3) become a US citizen through the propper channels. Millions of immigrants have. Maybe you should learn from them!!
Reply:Illegal immigration is a problem in a number of countries not just the US. Also Canada, Great Brittian, Germany to name a few. Not all illegals are from Latin Americia. The problems are different in different countries.
Reply:Dose a bear poop in the woods. That would be yes. for those of you who have never seen a bear anywhere other than a ZOO.
Reply:They should start shooting them as they come across if they don't stop when told. build vast tent city's and put them in them out in the desert. hold them for a year. caught again, then prison. find the illegals and put them in prison. if we have to build massive ones.build a huge high electrified wall. along the entire border.Canada also.much more protection on the seas and ports.
Reply:Illegal immigration is a problem and the children born, in the USA, of illegals are a big problem.

USA Employers who hire illegals are an even bigger problem. And the biggest problem of all is the USA Government that allows all this to happen.
Reply:illegal immigration proponents is that those who enter the U.S. by breaking the law are invariably "hard-working" and "law-abiding" once they get here.

1. That argument, however, has one major flaw. According to Justice Department statistics and the analysis of immigration experts, the "law-abiding" claim often isn't true.

As Investors Business Daily reported in March 2005:

"The U.S. Justice Department estimated that 270,000 illegal immigrants served jail time nationally in 2003. Of those, 108,000 were in California. Some estimates show illegals now make up half of California's prison population, creating a massive criminal subculture that strains state budgets and creates a nightmare for local police forces."

Citing an Urban Institute study, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies Steven Camorata noted in 2004: "Roughly 17 percent of the prison population at the federal level are illegal aliens. That's a huge number since illegal aliens only account for about 3 percent of the total population."

1. Former California Gov. Pete Wilson places the percentage of illegal aliens in U.S. prisons even higher. In 2001, he told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly:

"We had problems related to the costs of educating children who were acknowledged to be in the country illegally, healthcare costs. One in five in our prison population were illegal immigrants who had been convicted of a felony after entering the country illegally."

The Federation for American Immigration Reform also turned to the Justice Department to get statistics on criminal aliens. They report:

"In March 2000, Congress made public Department of Justice statistics showing that, over the previous five years, the INS had released over 35,000 criminal aliens instead of deporting them. Over 11,000 of those released went on to commit serious crimes, over 1,800 of which were violent ones [including 98 homicides, 142 sexual assaults, and 44 kidnaping].

"In 2001, thanks to a decision by the Supreme Court, the INS was forced to release into our society over 3,000 criminal aliens [who collectively had been convicted of 125 homicides, 387 sex offenses, and 772 assault charges]."

1. Up to a third of the U.S. federal prison population is composed of non-citizens, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons statistics - but not all non-citizen prison inmates are illegal aliens.

As to the "hard-working" claim, CIS notes: "The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 24.5 percent compared to 16.3 percent for native households."

Investor's Business Daily concurs: "Once [illegals] get here, they are 50 percent more likely to be on welfare than citizens."
Reply:][I have nothing against Hispanics or any other race or nationality of people that have enough respect for this great country to get in here the LEGAL way! I am angry that my ancestors came through Ellis Island and had to be checked out with a fine tooth comb to get in, worked their tails off and did not insist on having everyone else speak their language but rather learned English to communicate with other Americans. They did not wave flags of other countries and demand rights they were not entitled to! I say if you want to be an American....fine! Do it LEGALLY! Don't run over the border(there are more than Mexican people running over the borders illegally, like people from radical Muslim groups that we have to worry about) and ruin the dream for those who are trying to get here the right way. Illegals are a drain on our system because not all have good work ethics. Some depend on public charities, get an education paid for by the American taxpayer, collect food stamps and get housing while Americans cannot even get help sometimes. I don't think Mexico even tolerates American immigrants who are there legally so why should we tolerate lawbreakers?
Reply:I didn't realize what a problem illegal immigration was until I moved to a small town with a huge Illegal immigrant population.

The county I live in wants the illegals to stay for the farming, so illegal immigrants have more rights then American citizens. If you are an illegal immigrant and you have multiple DUI's without even having a license you spend six months in jail and are walking around free. If you are an American with a 2nd DUI you spend 1-6 months in jail and are at the mercy of the state for 2 years while you jump through a million hoops.I think the Illegal should have to face the same penalties. After several DUI's Americans spend years in jail. Illegals don't pay their Hospital bills, they give false info and those of us who don't lie pay more to off set their nonpayment. Illegals are not supposed to get Fed funding but they get around that by using their American born children. My family struggles and we watch illegals who are working under the table live wonderful lives. They go to their dances every week and have huge sweet 15 parties it's 15 for Mexicans not 16. And it is as costly as a very expensive wedding.
Reply:LEGAL immigrants are a net contribution to society and the economy - ILLEGAL immigrants are a net detraction from society and the economy. I will thank legal immigrants, but I will tell illegal immigrants to GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY! We don't want to take care of you!
Reply:Yes, illegal immigration IS a real problem. It is a problem for children who do not have the attention that they deserve in American public schools, it is a problem for everyone who drives and has inflated insurance rates and it is a problem for Americans who otherwise would be working if not for a position filled by an illegal. just because you may not suffer from any of these things doesn't mean that it is not happening to other Americans. These other Americans are in need of support from their fellow citizens in speaking in a loud clear voice that we know that illegals have broken the law and should not benefit from their crimes.
Reply:they are not making this country strong. they are breaking it down.

we don't need them and we don't want them.

I have no reason to thank them. they haven't done anything but caused problems for this country.

since you think they are so great...let all of them move in with you and you pay all their doctor bills that they are running up. You go out and buy their food so that way they wont be using food stamps that should be going to the American people who needs them.

why do they need them.........BECAUSE THE ILLEGALS HAVE TAKEN THEIR JOBS and, they can't buy their babies any food now.

i will never thank them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:We have too many immigrants - period. (see the video at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

This has been growing problem in recent decades.

Illegal immgration is a HUGE problem. Illegals bring disease (including incurable tuberculosis), crime (all kinds - but especially violent crime) and a unbearable drain on social welfare resources. For example, over 80 hospitals have had to close in California due to illegal aliens using the emergency room for routine care - then paying nothing for services.

Schools in border states are buried in illegals.

The cost to US taxpayers is about $50,000 per year, per illegal alien.

More than half of the prison population of California is made up of ILLEGALS.

We should position snipers on the border to shoot them as they come across. It's a damned invasion.
Reply:Yes, illegal immigration is a problem. They use the system and dont pay into it. Not all of the problems stem from illegals but they are a large factor. I will thank any legal immigrant or citizen for helping make this country strong, but not the illegals regardless of where they came from.
Reply:Yes, illegal immigration is a real problem.

Here are five reasons why:

1. The most important principle of American Democracy is the rule of law. Since their presence alone constitutes a violation of the law, this reason alone constitutes sufficient reason to end illegal immigration.

2. Illegal immigrants don't pay income taxes. You must have a social security number to file an income tax return. Illegals don't have one, so they don't pay. Yes, they pay sales taxes in some states, but sales taxes don't fund schools and hospitals.

3. Illegals accept wages which are well below a "living wage". This depresses the wages for all workers and makes it more difficult for legal workers to find employment.

4. Mexico should be one of the wealthiest countries on the planet. Its people suffer though because it is unbelievably corrupt and its leaders are dishonest. Mexico has tremendous natural resources including oil; it has great tourist industries; it has great manufacturing potential. By leaving Mexico, instead of staying home and pushing for reform of their own systems, illegals are choosing short term economic gain and sacrificing the long term future of Mexico.

5. There is a legal way to enter the United States. If you truly wish to abandon your homeland and come here, fill out the paperwork, find a sponser, learn the rules and laws, and LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH! I firmly believe that if illegals spoke English clearly, Americans would be more willing to accept them. In fact, every American I knwo welcoms immigrants, so long as they go through the proper legal process.

Also, the suggestion that the first English colonists were somehow "illegal" is ridiculuous ad really doensn't warrant a reponse, but here's one anyway:

There was no unified political system in place to govern the whole of North America. The Native American alliances which did exist were more like loose trading partnerships, not an actual nation. Therefore, European nations including France, England, Spain, Russia, The Dutch, all claimed certain portions. Wars were fought and treaties agreed upon to delineate ownership. There was nothing illegal about it. Every national border on earth was at one time or another established by warfare. This is the norm; accept it.

.
Reply:Yes, trespassing is a real (and expensive for tax payers) problem.
Reply:Illegal immigration is a real problem, but it's not as big as other problems the US is facing, like helthcare, social security, and oh, yeah, the war in Iraq. Although I am Mexican, I don't think you should thank illegal immigrants, you should thank the legal immigrants, who (like my parents) took the time to sign all that paperwork...

And of course, I have to say:

1. Not all illegal immigrants are exican.

2. Mexico is not a poor country, although it is corrupted, it is the 10th richest in the world.
Reply:There is no reason to thank an illegal criminal for ruining my country.

GO BACK TO MEXICO PENDEJO
Reply:No thank you come here legally or donn't come at all.
