Why did the airport feel it neccessary to take the Christmas trees down.?

I saw on the news last night they were taking trees down at an airport. This is what bothers me. Why are they giving in to the small mijority of people that have a problem with Christianity. I see know reason why this country should bend to every critics whim on something that has been celebrated since the days of the mayflower.

Why did the airport feel it neccessary to take the Christmas trees down.?

Reply:because some rabbi said it wasn't right to have those trees there and not have a menorah too

soon we will not have the right to display a Christmas tree in public and maybe in private if it can be seen through a window
Reply:Agreed. The airport managers are a bunch of Grinches.
Reply:i just seen it on the new a Jewish man was going to file a lawsuit , so they removed them so they would not insult anyones religion
Reply:i read about this on fox news. It was a rabbi in Seattle. He demanded an 8 foot menorah. what a monstrosity. i think it's silly, but unfortunately, some have to ruin the spirit of the season for all of us. christmas these days transcends religion--people celebrate it who aren't religious at all! Some people abuse their freedom of speech right. this guy made a huge stink out of nothing.
Reply:The Rabbi did not want the tree taken down, he wanted a menorah to go beside it. The rabbi and the Jewish community said they were appalled by the action the airport took. They fear a backlash of being seen as "Grinches." The Christ mass tree is a symbol of different things to different people. Some see it as nothing more than part of American consumerism, others see it as religious because the star atop symbolizes the star that the 3 magi followed to Jesus. All in all, I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion. I sympathize with the airline though. True, if it is not a private business than they cannot lawfully promote one religious view. The threat of legal action made them aware of this no doubt. If they were to simply put the menorah up, they would be enforcing 2 religious views, which might offend a third religious group causing them to sue. If they were to put both up, then a Christan or Jewish person might become offended that they are together, making a "mockery" of their beliefs and sue. It's easier to have nothing at all. I also feel for the Jewish community to, they are part of the Seattle area yet I'm sure they feel they are not being acknowledged. It's a great big mess!

Reply:That's crazy. How is a Druidic symbol of returning life in any way related to Christianity??? The Menorah would make sense beside a creche or a cross. But a tree???? That's dumb.
Reply:overreacting political correctness...what a croc...

and to the jew that complained...get circumsized again..only this time ,,make it count...
Reply:The U.S. is so politically correct that a request of putting up menorahs sends everyone into a frenzy. Christmas and every other holiday will soon pass into a past time.Birthdays might soon follow...

I think our differences should be respected and if other religions want their holidays or whatever respected, then they should do the same and put up their symbols of devotion. As long as it isn't harming someone.
Reply:you are talking about in Seattle and it is going to city council tomorrow. It was a Rabbi that said since there was Christmas trees there should be menorahs After they took them down he came out and said they were wrong taking them down they should be put back up but with his symbol too. The problem is it has become a symbol of not just Christmas but the season. The funny thing is they left all candy canes, poinsettias, tensile and other type decorations up in that same airport.

By the way there was a supreme court ruling (I cant remember when) that said a Christmas tree was not religious in nature. It will be changed by the council tomorrow.
Reply:Nobody wanted the trees taken down, and no-one sued or even threatened to sue.

A Rabbi asked to put up a menorah display and the airport preferred to remove all the trees rather than agree--talk about petty. The Rabbi was disgusted that the airport chose to remove the trees.

If you want someone to be mad at, get mad at the airport, not the Rabbi.
