Why can't some people get this?

You constantly hear some Mexican people who live in the US get upset and ask why some Americans don't treat them like other american citizens. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that many of them consider themselves Mexican before being Americans. Like this picture shows:

See, my family came from europe just a few generations ago (so they did NOT come over on the Mayflower!) and I'm able to admit that Europe sucks. That's why my family came to America in the first place.

Why is this so hard to get?

Why can't some people get this?
I have good relations with my German, Irish and English relatives, I visit them when I can and write them often. I am an American, there is no apostrophe. I have a wife that is Vietnamese, her family lives her. You will find the AMERICAN flag raised in her parents yard every day. I believe my father in law would kick you butt if you suggested he flew a Vietnamese flag.

Many Americans like myself get very offended when people who live here fly another flag. If you wish to be a citizen of anther country then go to that other country. But especially, do not get surprised and hurt if I am angry and rude to you when you fly another countries flag.

Like I said, I like my relatives from Europe; I am third generation, but with there economy and socialist restrictive rules I can say "Europe Sucks"
Reply:wtf is wrong with waving a foreign flag?

these people are just trying to embrace their parent's culture or their homelands...

This isn't a country with an Authoritarian government, it is a nation of freedom.

SO, you may NOT tell other people what to think, say, or preach.
Reply:It isn't as easy as that, dude. I believe they really want to be part of the society.. but the problem now is, can the society fully accept them 1000% without any prejudice etc? It's really sad, but this kinda thing happens everywhere... not only in the USA, and not only to the Mexican. It takes two hands to clap!
Reply:try and forgive them. racism in any form is wrong but only god should judge . hold your head up and be proud of who you are
Reply:that is a very good question. I agree, if you come to live in USA, it was your choice because your country sucked more than here. Deal with it and stop crying about how bad it is here. or just go back home and deal with your own crap!!
Reply:Listen idiot, most Americans don't say Europe "sucks" most amerikans worship brits for one thing. Ive heard a brit speak and most americants go into a trance. The only place americants say Europe sucks is places like France. Don't ask a bullcrap question. And also LOTS of americans love to say they are Irish. norwegian, etc....you can't change what you are even if you try. I bet when you go on vacation you say your American of ''such and such" decent, huh. I love to hear Americans say they are something else when I travel, its funny.
Reply:See this is your problem. Your family came to the US a few generations ago so you have no direct family contacts with the country your family came from. For Mexicans its different since Mexico is like right next door so we have family here on both sides of the border. Like any human being we love our family and try to protect them even though they are not here with us. I am second generation Mexican American but I still have bonds with Mexico since I have direct family members living there.

Is this too much for you to understand?
Reply:Well, here's my little opinion, for what it's worth.

You speak Spanish? Great. In your own home, speak Spanish. Don't expect me to learn your language when you're in my country and you've made no effort to learn mine. If you want to speak to me, do so in English.

You celebrate Mexican holidays? Great. Celebrate them in your own home. Don't expect me to celebrate them in mine. But if you want to invite me over, that's fine too. I'm happy to learn more about your culture. But don't expect me to live it.

You want to send your kids to American schools? Lovely. Pay taxes so we can support all 14 of them in our public school system. Let them learn English. Don't make our teachers learn a new language because your children refuse to speak anything but their Mother Tongue.

And best of all, don't assume that because my skin is white that I don't know your language. If you say rude things to me in Spanish, odds are I know what you're saying because I've traveled to your country and chose to learn YOUR language so that in your house I could speak to you easily. I'm funny like that.

Allowing people to express their cultures is a good thing. The more we know about the greater world we live in, the better off we all are. But don't ever expect me to change what I do in my own home because you do something different in your's. That's a good way to get escorted to the border REAL quick.
Reply:Ever seen a Mexican flag flying next to a U.S.A. flag? Happens all the time at borders.

There are much worse things to do than wave the flag of the country you were born in. Or a country you've been to and like.

I fly U.S.A., Montana, Argentina and Brazilian flags regularly. Does that mean I should be treated as less of a citizen?
Reply:I dont get it.
Reply:why is what so hard to get? the fact that americans don't say mexicans are US citizens? or the fact the their life sucked in mexico?
Reply:My wife's parents came from Cuba. They have been here for 60 years. But they are CUBAN first. Waiting always for the day when they can go back home. This type of thinking holds people back. Spanish people seem to have the worse with this. I do not know why they think like this, but most of them do.
Reply:i have no friggin idea thats what i dont understand either like disabilities other people want them to fit in but if they get made fun of their hair or something they get defensive
Reply:The fact of the matter is if their own country is so dear to them, they should not have left it in the first place. If they were true to their homeland, they would stay and fight to make it a better place as we US Citizens do here in this country. As a US Citizen, we should not have to tolerate the disrespect to our county on our own soil. Any guest worth having would know better than to come into your home and insult it.
Reply:Because America would be a better place if everybody thought like you, right?
Reply:some mexicans dont even no wha there talking about
Reply:probibly because theres to many of them.
Reply:Until we start allowing large numbers of Mexicans to come in LEGALLY, the only way most of them can come in is illegally.

If we do not let someone come in legally, why should they think of themselves as Americans? That makes no sense.

You can bet that photo is mostly of illegals.

Studies show that those of Mexican ancestry who have been allowed to become citizens assimilate as well as those of us of European ancestry. it takes about two generations, just as it did for our ancestors.

By the way, though ti wasn't mentioned here, some joker said on another immigration question that our European ancestors simply declared themselves citizens. NOT SO! In the 1850's, it took a Federal court action to become a US citizen. I have a copy of my great-grandfather's naturalization court application and order.
