It formed the basis for self governance that eventually we as the americans used as a frame work to build our government.Ex: having a judiciary to be able to carry out and enforce written law. Having lawful assemblies to determine courses of action with in the community. These and many other things formed the basis of our american government/republic.

Reply:The Mayflower compact was very similar to the Constitution. It outlined the basic forms of a Representative government in which beliefs were shared.
Basically, people needed to follow it, it was their essence of survival in a way.
