Why do most whites complain about black history?

Hispanic history is in Sept 15.


Black history is Feburary


Asian history is in May


Women's history is in March


Native American history is in November


Gay history is in Feburary in the UK.


I learn white history 11 months.


I'm really tiring of hearing about Pilgrims, the mayflower, and Salem Witch Trials


I don't think this is racist seeing how ALL minorities have history months and they are not DENOUNCING whites at all.


It's only racism when you say you're superior or hate another race. None of those months are doing that!

Why do most whites complain about black history?
i am a average white male. i have a white girlfriend. but just because i am white and have a white girlfriend doesn't mean I'm racist. what i think is racist is the fact for so many years white people were superior over any other race. now that has change and no one should think that there better than someone else because of there skin color. another thing i don't understand is when it come to a job. if one black male is just as qualified as a white male. they will pick the black male just because hes black. i think thats racist. i think in the University Of Wisconsin. to be accepted into the school i must at least have a 4.0 and that wont even cut it. but if your a minority they will let you in with a 3.2 if everyone is talking about equal right it should be equal for everyone. and in the school I'm in we have a choice in what we learn. we can learn about European history, African history, Asian history of south American history. i think it would be wrong to only learn about European history because im in the Africa classes and it is one of my favorite classes because i learn about how unique people are and how different their customs are. but i think everything in this world should be 100% equal. what happened in the past was so wrong and i am ashamed to be white because of that but i know i would not have ever treated anyone different in those days just like i still don't today.
Reply:Hmmm I dont personally think that many "whites" have an issue with Black History Mo. . Many great people have contributed to how this country was formed, regardless of their race, they should be celebrated.

Here's the thing...most Americans don't really care. And so an incendiary racists can bring the issue up again, a high-ranking member of the minority group brings it to the attention of the media, and then the majority of Americans who don't really care say, "What on Earth is he/she talking about?"





Most people just want to go to work to talk about television and sex, or sports and drinking, or cars and girls or guys.





And also: Most of these privileges that whites get are so unknown even to them because they don't even realize it. They are not single-handedly saying, "Okay, he's black, he's white, so I'm going to pick the white guy."





They just grab the guy the always hang out with.





Believe it or not, merit is good. But kissing butt is even better. And sadly, it works.





My advice: get to a comfortable level in which you have some say, then try to slowly turn the tables...but read again: SLOWLY.





People don't like change. But if it goes slowly, they are more accepting.





This is why gay marriage will eventually happen. Eventually. You have to remember that ALL society has to slowly assimilate it.





So will legal drugs and such "taboo" topics.





Hey, tattoos were out once, right? Now they're totally in. And that didn't happen overnight.

I think as white people (a lumped category in itself to include every european anyone!) it is important to learn about other cultures. BUT, people are people and if they do something brave or good or world-moving then they should be recognized regardless of what race they are. I don't think there should be ______ history months at all!





And you are learning american history... not white history. It just so happens the founders of our present day america were white. From England.
Reply:i totally agree with you! and i never knew hispanic history was in september. im chicano and hate the foreign label hispanic therefore dont celebrate it. white history isnt that interesting so they make up bull crap like columbus and the mayflower. really the only good thing about white history is the revolutionary war. but they cover it up to sound like heres(im not talken bout modern whites im talken bout historical ones) truth is whites created all these months to get away with keeping histroy books pro white. i have white freinds best people in the world same with my black asian arab bi gay girl guy chicano mexican indian freinds. i like everyone but not particulary their race. i see my freinds as people not as all these labels were given
Reply:I dont know why the complain about it either...the ones who mostly complain are closet racists most likely. We do learn about white history ALL the time, its not bad for other races who were OPPRESSED mind you, to have a time period for their celebrations...we don't get it all year like the anglo-saxons. Did you guys (white people who think its wrong) get screwed over? I think not

Reply:MOST whites? FYI: most whites don't care. I rarely even THINK about black history, let alone complain about it. I like history, so maybe I should learn more black history, but I am concentrating on something else that I consider more important right now. Black history IS important, but I don't have time to learn everything - I wish I did!

Reply:i am white, and i recognize that i have white privelage. and i think that american history is boring and lame, and i would much rather learn about hispanic or african culture and history. i cant apologize for anyone else though.

Like at my school there is a Black Student Union, Muslim Student Union, Hispanic Student Union, and Gay and Straight Alliance. The school won't allow a White Student Union because it's racist. So we made the French Club.
Reply:for your informatin september 15 is mexican, as in only mexico's, independece day, i think social studies are a elective lecture, if you want to learn about aspects of certain civilizations you have to read them on your own, school teaches you how thos country was born because lets face it you live in this country, but if you feel strong about where your people came from you need to read extra books that are written for a wider public, school now has a limit of what they can teach so no one gets butt hurt and sues..its a strange world but if you want to know about something...you should have the iniciative to find out on your own and do your own reasearch...find your answers and then you can have a topic to speak of instead of just repeating what we all read on the same book on the same school...and yes..get your months right...sept 15 is mexicos independence day, lke 4th of july in USA ok, thank you and good night

Reply:most people get irked by it just simply because there isn't specifically one for them. the thing i always hear people say is "when theres a white history month, i'll celebrate hispanic history month"


i personally couldnt care less if there isn't a white history month. i actually like learning about the history makers, whichever group they tend to belong to.








but its the same concept as say, scholarships that have stipulations including race. for example, some scholarships require that the recepiant be black. whereas a famous figure in history, i believe it was jefferson, tried to have a scholarship set up specfically for white kids. it was refused. i personally think its not fair that blacks can have rights that i can't. the requirement that the recipient be black means that there is a smaller pool to choose from, increasing a persons chance of getting that scholarship. whereas any scholarship i might apply for is the same scholarship that every ethnicitiy will apply for. that isn't fair because instead of a pool of say, ten people, i have a pool of a hundred people.


I think everyone should be equal. there shouldn't be any stipulations based on race. that makes it fair.





i feel that raising certian people up makes it unfair. like with hurricane katrina. some famous black man (i dont remember who) declared that the red cross was only helping white people. guess what, they can't do that. its a lawsuit waiting to happen, and no human in their right mind would be willing to help one person, and not another. if your heart wants to help, it will help all. i know racist people in the south, paramedics. they hate blacks and asians, and yet, when a black or an asian is in need, they help them all the same. it hurt to see that there was a special fund set up for blacks. what about white people? could someone honestly be so hateful that, upon seeing someone that was white approach them and want the same bowl of soup they're giving everyone else, turn that person away because they're white?





i wish everything was equal. that would be nice.
Reply:As far as I know not all whites have a problem with Black History. The one's that do are ignorant and bigoted, but that could come from any race, not just caucasions.
Reply:First of all we don't "get" (as one of your answerers stated) 7 month's of "white" history. The historical facts are that white people came here and claimed this country. The first half of America's history is an accounting of all the things that happened as the country grew. Then you have the civil war. At this time the black slaves were free and then the black Americans who contributed to this country began to show up in the history books.


Whites did buy black s as slaves from the northerners who bought them from Africans(black men). The problem with a "history" month is that as is human nature we focus on only the great things that people of that race did. When you are learning about black history during black history month do they leave out the African's who sold your ancestors in the first place? Let me answer that yes they do. That is never discussed. White folks didn't run over to Africa and chase down black folks and capture them and then bring them to America to sell. Your own people sold thier people to the slave traders.


In history we learn about the whites good and bad. We learn that we in fact conquered the Indidans and yes unfairly took their land. Historically that's how land has been acquired people fight and the winner takes the prize. It was unfair in that they had bows, arrows, and spears and we had guns. History teaches about Benedict Arnold and his treachery, it teaches about outlaws like Jessie James. We don't just focus on the good things that white Americans have done. So, yes it is a double standard. I will not go into all the things that we can't do or have because of the outcry of racism that would accompany that. All I am saying is before you complain wake up and check out everything and include the good and the bad because that's what history truly is. A factual accounting of the events that formed a country.
Reply:huh ..........i dont know why they complain they get 7 months of white history in the u.s black's get 1 asians get 1 mexican's get 1 women get 1 indians get 1,but honestly i dont care to much about niether of those history months it dosent make a diffrence to me if they are here or not
