How much should we expect to pay movers from a 2BR in Manhattan to Charlotte?

We would have the movers pack and unpack and our apt does not have much stuff in it now. A few big items like the bed and a couple of entertainment centers, but everything else is reasonable sixe (we are gettign rid of the couch).



Looking for a general sense of what a reputable mover (Mayflower? Allied?) would charge for this type of move.

How much should we expect to pay movers from a 2BR in Manhattan to Charlotte?
OK I work as a contracting agent for the gov arranging to move house hold goods for military members, so i know a good bit.





you are looking at about $2000-2500 for the move. they are going to charge you for every box and roll of tape that they use.

It will make your claim iron tight when they "lose" your TV or poke a hole in your couch.



TAKE Irreplaceable / small high value items in the car with you (pictures, JEWELRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, laptops etc.)



When they are filling out the inventory for the condition of your items make sure you agree with the description. They one tried to describe my 1 week old couch as soiled and faded.



Beware of the packers, I'm sorry to say but most are not the most trust worthy, but on the same note. Don't be an asshole to them either. its amazing how far providing snacks and drinks go.



All the companies you mentioned are not who will be moving you, there are local agents (kinda like franchises) that are the real owners, they just use the name.
Reply:Way too much, I would say. When its just a few large items, its cheaper and easier and safer to do it yourself. If you're worried about lifting the heavy items, hire some local people, preferably ones you know. If not there are companies that will come help you with loading at your old place or unloading at your new place. You don't have to worry about them riffling through your stuff cuz you'll have packed yourself. You won't hurt yourself loading cuz they'll do that. You will save money cuz it's WAY cheaper for a Uhaul than Bekins, and its easier cuz you really don't have all that much stuff.



We're doing a similar move next month, and I've done a lot of pricing research. We are moving 4 peoples stuff out of a 2 bedroom apartment to a 5 bedroom house... From New Mexico to Indiana of all places! So I know what you're looking forward to. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
