In the summer im going to be staying at the renaissance mayflower hotel in Washington DC. However I only have one day of leisure so im hoping to spend the afternoon shopping. I was wondering if anyone knew where the near major shopping high street is near this hotel (pref. good stores like prada etc.). I would also be grateful if you could give me the area name and dicrections if using the metro is required.
Thank you in advance to any answers given to this question.
High street shopping areas in Washington DC?
Actually, you are in luck, as you are in one of the better shopping areas, along Connecticut Avenue. So you should be able to do some shopping right outside your hotel, and down to K Street/etc.
Another place you may want to go is Georgetown. There is a mix of shopping there, as there is, frankly, on Connecticut. That's because upscale mixes with college sensibilities here. Still if you want to visit a designer or something, this is a good area. You will want to take the Circulator Bus from anywhere on K street or go to Foggy Bottom and walk about a mile to get to Georgetown. There is no Metro station in Georgetown. Georgetown Park is good, but some of the boutiques on Wisconsin avenue and along M street are great, too.
Some of the local malls may be good for you, particularly White Flint in Maryland (Metro goes directly there) and the Fashion Center at Pentagon City (Metro goes here, too)
Reply:The area around your hotel, on Connecticut Avenue, has some of the "better" stores. Others can be found in the Georgetown Park Shopping Center in the Georgetown section of Washington. Unfortunately there's no Metrorail connection to Georgetown, although there is a bus (the concierge at your hotel can give you details) or you can easily take a cab for the 10 minute drive.
By the way, here in "The States" we don't use the term "High Street Shopping", although I know what you mean by the term. Similarly, what you call a Chemist's Shop, we call a Drug Store or a Pharmacy. Quite a bit of difference between our languages...
Hope you have a good trip!
Reply:You can find upscale shopping districts both in Friendship Heights and Georgetown. Use wmata.com to get directions from your hotel to the stores.
